Great win for the Cards tonight! Fernando Salas may still be in line for a Cy Young.

Bite your tongue! The only people who want to see the Cardinals in the World Series AGAIN are people in St. Louis.

Not true a bit! The people of this nation love the Cardinals, no matter where they dwell. (That's why they have the nickname "America's Team.")

I like the Cards. Good team framework, not an extremely high payroll, built through solid GM and ownership decisions. Exactly what a baseball team should aspire to be.

After the huge changes this off season, it's remarkable what they've done to put another World Series contender together. When the big names get injured, they seem to have an endless supply of people in the minor leagues to take their places. Carpenter and Kozma have done great this year.

This. At least it makes more sense this time...unlike the 83 win 2006 team that only got in the playoffs because the NL Central was so mediocre that year.

Also I've never ever heard the cardinals referred to as "America's Team." I think only people in St Louis call them that...

In the end though, no matter what happens... I'm happy that at least the Yankees won't be in the world series.

Pretty nearly everyone outside of greater Baltimore calls them that. That's my experience at any rate.

Before baseball expanded all the way west to California and south to Atlanta, Houston, etc., the Cardinals' fan base included a huge chunk of the U.S. west of the Mississippi and a lot of the south.

Nobody calls the Cards America's team. That is pure nonsense.

its our northeast media goggles that blind us.... but with the weirdly consistent cardinals playoff successes since 2004 they should have a huge fan base. just because espn doesn't cream their pants over them like the phillies/yankees/redsox doesn't mean they don't draw.

think about it.... tebow possibly being a running back this sunday is making more headlines than the cardinals.... thats only because he's on the jets though.

l'inc probably does.

Exactly. It's not literally true that no one calls them America's Team. Moreover, I hear people all over the country calling them that. But I also hear my cat talking to me.

The only baseball team I've heard called "America's Team" is the Braves. And that was only because that's what some marketing dude at TBS decided to call them when TBS was airing their games nationally, not because they were particularly popular across the country. The Braves nickname is pretty well known.
