I don't know if this whole "pitch-framing as advanced metric" annoys me or amuses me. So basically, umpires are idiots and you can fool them into calling more strikes with some body positioning sleight of hand...?

How about this - why don't we let that fancy Fox Sports box that they superimpose on the video call balls and strikes? I'm sure the technology can get the margin of error down to an inch or less...

This surprises you? On the flip side, a bad catcher (Montero) can fool the umpire into thinking a strike is a ball.

Not surprised - half amused/half annoyed. I feel a rant coming on about how if we were serious about calling our sports fairly we would replace humans with technology everywhere a judgment call isn't necessary - crossing the plane of the goal in football and soccer, balls and strikes in baseball, and a hundred other examples.

Well, except for wrestling. In that sport I fully support the current practice of 3-counts taking anywhere from 2 to 60 seconds

A more amusing solution would be to shock the umpire every time he gets a call wrong.

I don't know what's better about this picture, the chop, Meredith  or the next great Yankees catcher.

Such a dumb deal and I'm glad the Yankees didn't make it. Who are they going to protect him with? Morales and Ibanez? Unless they plan on spending a lot more money they are going to find out what happens to an unprotected Cano.

I saw a spray chart with a Safeco overlay and all of his homers would have still made it. When he gets a hold of a ball he gets it. The short porch was a non-factor with him.

1-5 Ellsbury, Gardner, (infante? Jeter?), Teixeira, Soriano. Not bad.

Also a possibility: Ells, Gardy, Tex, Beltran, Soriano. I have a feeling they will go after Beltran or Choo. Tanaka is a lock now without Cano and they can probably sweeten Kuroda's deal a bit. I'm optimistic.
