so what if the cards made it, and won the ws? They always do well in the postseason when they are the worst team to make it in, it seems

with Albert in the zone for the playoffs its almost financially disastrous for the cardinals for him to do well. At this rate the cardinals will have to offer him something in the range of 25-30million per for at least 5 years.

That said its great to see albert doing so well, it'd be awesome if he just tears up the playoffs.

is there a list of the free agents this coming offseason. tried searching but can't find.

i'm just sort of fantasizing the Tiger's offseason right now. we have Magglio and Guillen coming off the books. That's about $25 million right there. Penny is another $3. ZUMAYA. $1.2M

Sports talk radio around here has really been interesting on this point all summer. When Pujols broke his wrist, of course the local media thought that was a horrible thing that would ruin the Cardinals' season. But there was also a lot of talk about how that might be a good thing in the long term b/c his market price would go down. (Remember that he didn't have a very strong beginning of the season.) Now you're hearing the same discussion, but reversed. People are obviously ecstatic about his performance, but they're also worrying a lot more about their ability to afford him in the future.

^ i really haven't followed the whole Albert free agent saga, but i'll go out on a limb and say if he may find the market for 1B pretty sparse with the big market teams. who could compete and have the money to do it. Angels and Cubs off the top of my head. That's it.

I agree. Lots of people talk about the Cubs as a destination for Pujols. I think that's especially a concern here, because no one wants to see Pujols playing 1B for the hated Cubs! (Actually, I think Cubs and Cards fans are more like frenemies than real enemies, but still.) But the Cubs are just now starting to get out from under a mountain of bad contracts, having invested huge money in underperforming players like Zambrano and Soriano for years. I'm not sure they have the appetite to jump right back into to that way of doing business. Especially given that Pujols is no spring chicken anymore.

i would've left the Cubs off my two team list if Epstein didn't join. I can see him wanting to make a splash and there's no bigger splash than that.

you can probably count the yankees and red sox out, which for a player of that caliber, is rare. may be a lucky break. i wouldn't be surprised if they talk to him though. no way the dodgers can compete. MLB won't do anything that drastic with that team in absolute freefall.

the usual suspects all are set and 1B and he won't just DH so i'd count out:
Yankees
Red Sox
Phillies
Brewers
Tigers

no other team i can think of will spend the cash. leaves him with

Cards
Angels
Cubs
White Sox

The way Michael Young is performing in the post-season, I'd include Texas in the Pujols sweepstakes.

man o man. what a game. surprisingly, i am at total ease during this series. i was a wreck during the yankees, perhaps because of the prestige and pedigree of the team.

in for a long ass day saturday. headed to east lansing for the MSU/Mich game and either staying there to party or coming home and watching game 6.

Delmon Young is an interesting case, back when I was a rookie prospector I remember reading how this guy was going to be the next Albert Belle, I'm talking 40HR power for years. Its interesting to see what the Rays had envisioned:

C: Toby Hall
1st Base: Aubrey Huff
2nd Base: Elijah Dukes
3rd Base: meh
Shortstop: B.J. Upton
CF: Carl Crawford
RF: Josh Hamilton
LF: Rocco Baldelli
DH: Delmon Young

If only everything had worked out.

A weekend extravaganza; not leaving the house for much.

Saturday
M v MSU at noon. Go Blue!
Tigers v Rangers I believe in Max.

Sunday
Lions and 49ers Jimmy Harbaugh comes home. But to a loss.
Tigers v Rangers There will be a game seven. Fister is the man.
