What the fuck. I thought it was a simple injury.

Pitchers are going to be wearing football helmets before long.

@clarinetplayer, now Rondon is out for the year. Unreal.

season seems doomed and it hasn't even started.

this was introduced earlier in the year but its quite interesting:

MLB Announces Revolutionary New Fielding-Tracking System

MLBAM introduces new way to analyze every play: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlbam-introduces-new-way-to-analyze-every-play?ymd=20140301&content_id=68514514

whats nice is that it was the MLB that actually did this and not some independent company and how complete it is in scope, execution, and implementation.

They haven't said whether the data will be public or not, like Pitchf/x. I hope it is but something tells me it won't be.

These Twins announcers are some simple mother fuckers. Dude couldn't pronounce Cervelli and is calling Dean Anna "Dean Ah-na."

Yeah, and John Sterling never makes mistakes mwink[1].gif

O ye of little faith! While the news is depressing, they will find replacements--not as good as, but sufficient. The good news is that the old Verlander seems to be back. With an much improved infield, the kind of back up that Porcello's quirky pitches require should increase the total in his win column.

Having said all that, the Fister trade seems uglier and uglier.

Perhaps Ausmus will channel his inner "Charlie Dressen"--the acknowledged mentor of McClain, Lolich, and Horton-- who told told his players "Just hold them, boys, until I think of something."

Will the new turf take hold???? Damn this permafrost.

I'm telling you man these guys had a really simple midwestern vibe to them. Talking slowly, mispronouncing all but the most Anglo names, talking about Cedar Rapids, etc.

"HE GONE!" - hawk harrelson.

also *jerry remy of my nesn crew has one of the more jarring boston/Massachusetts accents EVAH. I personally am immune to it because of where I grew up, but I can only imagine how it sounds to outside ears on MLB cable channel games to national audiences.

*i don't know of a more high profile broadcaster who's children have left a worse wake of destruction (and are still being happily employed).

Scherzer cuts off extension talks. Will we see him in pinstripes next year?

Scherzer, CC, Tanaka, Nova Pineda would be a fine rotation. :stirpot:

^detroit could probably net a nice haul of prospects for him sooner rather than later. the longer they wait until the trade deadline the less they are going to get.

he might be having a cliff lee type of career (off so bad that he's sent to the minors one year, cy young candidate the next) so its impossible to gamble with that.

Boras said the tigers rejected the offer. Likely ridiculous. One has to wonder if he falls offs how it'll impact his offer next year. I'm leaning towards him not staying in Detroit.

Leyland and Boras had an unusually friendly relationship in the past. I forgot where I read it, it might have been an Esquire article featuring one of the two, but Leyland would actually call up Boras and ask who are the best prospects for specific needs he had (like a right handed power arm for relief), and Boras responded that there were several right in the tigers farm system before offering up who was available through his client list.

Maybe Leyland doesn't really have that big of role post retirement?
