I know Gene gets a bad rap locally and I am aware that he does have a pretty good rep around the league. For some reason though, that tubby man at 3rd always made me laugh though (I used to always tect in his jersey number and try to get him voted player of the game... a piece of me died inside when they made him bench coach), and in the grand scheme of things he probably made no more bad decisions at 3rd than any other coach would have. I would imagine that every 3rd base coach at every team around the league has made a few bad choices regarding who to send home and who not to and will forever pay the price among the local fan base.

My guess is that now that his buddy Jim is stepping down, Gene will probably be gone next season to.

^ they made it pretty open ended.

His gaffes at third shouldn't have any bearing on game management. At least I hope not. It's not like Brookens was any better or worse. I'm sure if we followed other teams, there'd be the same sentiment in many other teams.

I'm curious to know what they'll do personnel wise. The rumor is they are gonna try to trade Max. While I don't disagree with the reasoning, I feel we are so close. Another rumor is Ellsbury or Cano. Those seem very long reaches.

Donnie had a better post season record at the plate, on the bases, and on the field than Mister Fielder. biggrin.gif

"We’ve won quite a bit and I’m very grateful to have been a small part of that; I came here to make talent a team and I think we did that."

Folks at the Holiday Market in Royal Oak are despondent. Their number one customer for rotisserie chicken will be gone.

Just so it is recorded for history- I'm calling the Cardinals! Absolutely no bias, nope none whatsoever.

Enjoy!

While I would love to see Cano in an Old English D, I imagine he's going to be demanding a pretty big salary. Probably not the $15 million he got this season, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him fetch upwards of $10 million a year and I don't know if we really want to be spending that when we are still locked in on Fielder (and others).

The Fielder contract. Grrrrrrr......

I'm not so down on Fielder as everyone else. One bad year can be erased. Look at Miggy in '09. Getting arrested, drunk, etc. now that shit is all a distant memory.

Ummm....no. Cano will get a raise, and a hefty one. He'll get closer to $25 than $10

Yah. I'm thinking a variation of something around 7 years $25 million per.

He did lose some sort of leverage wth the dodgers signing that Cuban dude.

I really think that Cano stays with the Yankees. The rumors are that Cashman is looking to retain Cano and bring in McCann, Beltran and Tanaka. I am hoping for all of that except McCann who, in addition to being overrated, is a colossal douche nozzle.

I'm sure McCann will show the Yankees how to comport themselves according to the finest baseball tradition. I mean, the franchise was practically born yesterday so they could use a guy who's been there and done it all

Prince is a good guy. He really does try. But, he doesn't have what it takes to play 1st base. And, in post season play, since coming to Detroit, what has he done? This year, when we needed Prince to pick up the team when Cabrera was hurt, all we got was a zero. And for the money that he is being paid, he is expected to produce. It is easier to fix "getting arrested, drunk..." than curing a slump. I hope that, in the off season, Prince gets some help--counseling, whatever. We need him.

On the radio, today, I heard one bit of wisdom: Detroit needs to get healthy more than it needs a "name" manager.
