Yeah. It's quite pricey but well within their range. It's low risk as well. Anything more than 2, I wouldn't like it. The Tigers had quite a bit coming off the books between Valerde and Delmon. Any of the other outfielders aren't worth the asking price and obtaining someone like Justin Upton via trade probably wasn't going to work.

$26 million is high risk no matter how long it is. It's $26 million, which is roughly 5 WAR of free agent market value. Torii Hunter is not a 5 WAR player anymore (he was last year and in 09, but that's not enough to make a sane bet, especially with aging).

When the owner has two feet in the grave and wants a title desperately, $13 million more a year isn't much to him. Who were they gonna get at that price? They'd have trade a lot for Upton.

I realize it is separated somehow, but he also isn't paying any hockey players right now or in the foreseeable future. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Should be interesting to see if Lincecum gets traded. IMO if so then they know more than they're letting on.

The Tigers owner also owns the Redwings? That is actually an interesting question. He's not really spending his money in team payroll, but still interesting to wonder whether the one affects the other.

Yep. He owns the wings. His family is also a part of one of the casinos in Detroit. It's in his wife's name since he is a part of baseball and hockey ownership.

That's a great signing by the Tigers. Hunter's much more than just a bat. He's excellent in the field and even better in the clubhouse. Even if he comes anywhere near last year's numbers he'll still be a MASSIVE upgrade over anyone else the Tiggers had out there. Plus, who else was on the market and would have settled for a short term deal? No one. They could still bag someone else like Swisher but why lose out on Hunter? Now they're even more attractive to any other potential free agents, especially a closer.

Thoughts on the CY Young awards? The closest race in 50 years in the AL with Price barely edging Verlander. I think that was a little Verlander fatigue, to be honest. He should have won.

Dickey in the NL was awesome. Nice to see a knuckleballer win and also him to be able to hold the Mets hostage for more cash.

I would think that the hockey fiasco has a lot to do with Mr. I's wallet. I'm sure the spending spree isn't over. Gotta get Sanchez, now.

What a lineup: Jackson, Hunter, Miggy, Prince, V Mart

Verlander should've won, Dickey deserved it.
