It sure was quiet in there tonight. Most of the players know the window is closing on that piece of shit team they got.

i just hate the smug attitude. you have the largest salary in all of baseball. you are expected to win. the fact that you're scraping out wins against the orioles is pathetic in and of itself. game over.

the worst part is they don't stand by their team at all. they lose 2 in a row and all the fans are like fire girardi, arod is a pansy fag. but they win one and they're heroes? you see it in all sports, but it's the worst with the yankees.

Anyway, real talk: the reason I hate the Yankees (and the Red Sox) is that they represent the pinnacle of big money business baseball. They don't have any loyalty to their farm system, there's no baseball strategy or run support, it's simply finding the biggest, flashiest high market prospect on the trade market, and signing them to a monster deal. Look at their roster: every player is a brand name commodity, and their pitching staff is populated by highly-paid aces who perform well. There's no.. magic, or soul. It's just a collection of paychecks with no team spirit or unity. Then you look at teams like the A's and the Orioles, who win through a combination of strategy, cultivating prospects and luck... there's just so much more to it then the merely blowing the bank each season.

And then there's the smugness of the fan, or the fact that the Yankees are one of the teams where any moron from any city can magically become a "Yankees fan" by buying a hat and shouting a lot.

Just watched the highlights. Boy, ARod sure looks like shit. He's WAY behind on everything, even breaking stuff.

Sure as hope Jeter isn't too fucked up.

You act like all baseball teams wouldn't do the same thing if they had the money that the Yankees do. For what it's worth Derek Jeter grew up a Yankees fan in NJ. Posada, Pettitte, Mo and Cano were also first signed by the Yankees.

Yankees: Not right now, but technically, yes.

Orioles: Matusz. That's it.


So we're pretty even on that front. And as far as strategy goes, wouldn't you agree that pinch-hitting a 40-year-old (who is barely making a million dollars this season!) who winds up hitting the game-tying and game-winning home runs for a guy who makes 28 TIMES as much is strategy?
