Trading Youk shows the front office wants to keep Bobby for the longhaul, I believe. Which means it could be a long few years for Boston fans... Just looking briefly at the WAR values from Fan Graphs, Chicago won this trade by a mile, but its still a small sample size.
I'm just saying they suck right now. I have full confidence they'll make a run and then be promptly exited from an early round of the playoffs.
as for trading Youk? It sucks for my wife and I - because he's the last guy from the old 2004 and 2007 teams, and along with J.D. Drew. the way my wife finally found baseball interesting (because of the statistics involved in it - she's an economics major and wondered why so many economics background guys were in front offices).
the wife got me a really cool present back in 2007 - a redsox destination package where you get tickets for a whole series, tour the field, and have a lunch with meet and greet with a player.
our meet and greet was with Youk. The guy was huge - like 6-2 and shaped like a barrel with two legs. he was amazed at how half the people in the room were from other countries like namibia, argentina, bermuda, and thailand.Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
