So...signing day.

"I am going to... the University of Ole Miss [sic]."

Signing Day: "I'm going to the University of Arkansas."

Mom: "Oh hell nah you ain't, you goin' to the U. I'm not signing them papers."

Kind of absurd that the parents need to sign off if the kid is under 21. Why 21 and not 18 like everything else? NCAA rules are dumb.

ESPN's signing class rankings:
GSU/Bama
Florida
tOSU
ND
Ole Miss
Michigan
LSU
aTm
FSU
UGA

Funny how most of those ended up in the top 10 final ranking... why its almost as if success begets success.

ETA: still brooding over what could have been if FSU's two bad quarters hadn't happened...

FSU AD says conference re-alignment is "not done."

"We've had conversations at the senior level about what we should consider," Spetman said. "There will be more of those conversations -- they'll continue. It's an evolution every day."

http://espn.go.com/colleges/fsu/football/story/_/id/9020053/ad-randy-spetman-discusses-state-florida-state-seminoles-program

I still maintain a new conference will be formed soon. WVU just doesn't fit at all with Big XII, FSU isn't happy, Clemson wants to play better football, that's 25% of the way to a conference championship and they're big football schools. Let's also not forget Notre Dame is kind of a free agent ATM.

Plus, and this is several years down the line, I heard there's a new program developing in Atlanta that if it gets its feet under itself and starts playing decently could be enticing due to its media market.

Plus the ACC has focused on basketball to the detriment of football. In most respects this has been stupid, as football is a much better moneymaker than basketball. That hasn't dissuaded the conference leadership though, as these dumbasses recently added Syracuse and Pitt. ffffuuuu.gif Our schedule this year is a fucking trainwreck.

At least Pitt has a history...

So here are the rule changes for this year. The rule about targeting seems good as does the chop blocl rule which simplifies the call for refs and allows for more natural football moves.

The chop block rule is good. This evens out the rule changes to help prevent injuries on defense after all of the targeting defenseless receivers on offense.

My favorite though is this one: "To require teams to have either their jersey or pants contrast in color to the playing field." Might as well call that one the Boise State Rule but what happens if a team (maybe Baylor) comes out in all green. Will Baylor no longer be allowed to wear all green on the field?

It was adopted because of Eastern Washington, actually and its because the refs couldn't tell them apart.

I think because Baylor's uniforms aren't intended to mimic the field its OK. But will Army be able to use camo jerseys again is the real question.

So joining the real GSU in the Sun Belt Conference as of yesterday is Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. ASU certainly has the size and money to compete in D-1, Southern much less so.

I said elsewhere and I'll say it here, I think there needs to be fewer college football programs not more, and certainly fewer at the D-1 or "bigtime" levels. Also, while GSU has more justification on technical merits to move up, I'm not sure Southern does, and I certainly don't think they are overall in the best interests of the schools.

Also, I note the Sun Belt has a few football only members now which I think is a dangerous path for the orginzation. The Big East showed that having different tiers of membership just doesn't work. Organizations have to stand for something and if you dilute your membership to be a catch-all, there's little buy in from all the members and you lessen the overall quality.

The college football playoffs will be known as the exciting and originally named "College Football Playoffs."

first title game is Jan 25 2015.

FSU's 2013 schedule? A complete joke (thanks again to West Virginia cancelling).

FSU's 2014 schedule? Bad ass.

Oklahoma State at Cowboy Stadium
Florida
Clemson
Notre Dame
Miami
Louisville

FSU's 2015 schedule? Even more bad ass. Looking like we're playing at Alabama. Now if only we could line up a game against Georgia Southern.
