Anyone see whats going on at Miami now? From what Im hearing from pretty reliable sources is this is going to turn out to be the biggest NCAA scandal since SMU. Talking about millions in benefits, documented by emails, phone records, photos, etc, much of which with coaches/administration knowledge. People are saying this makes USCs transgressions look amatuer.

As Jim Rome said today, if The Vest lost his job because of a few tattos and trinkets, God knows what this could have in store. Since SMU, I really thought the dealth penalty would never be used again. That said, this is looking more and more SMU by the hour. Stay tuned.

Yes, she took the check, and yes, it was Ponzi money, but that's not the same as being involved in major NCAA violations. She can't vet every dollar that comes in, and, as a university president (especially a private university), you better damn well grin and say "thank you" when someone gives you $50,000.

I don't doubt that a lot of the stuff with the players and coaches is true, but right now it seems pretty tenuous to connect Shalala to everything.
No, I haven't yet read any allegation that Shalala was involved, and that wasn't what I wrote. I said "if". However, she is standing next to the guy and the bball coach in the photo; it seems naive to believe she knew nothing.

Of course presidents have to raise funds but, as a university president (especially a private university), you better damn well also have your compliance department thoroughly vet checks in the amount of $50,000, etc..

How pathetic. At least USC and Auburn have national titles to show for their rampant cheating. WHat did Miami get?

Yep. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving fan base or team. I'd be hard pressed to find anyone I know here in south Florida that didn't immediately believe every word of the story once it came out (even if they won't admit it)

I read your contortionist explanations for how USC really wasn't cheating. They just weren't convincing.

My definition of what USC did aside, even assuming the school/player were 100% involved 1 player does not = "rampant cheating".

73 over the course of ~10 years (UM) sure does

The QB is experienced, and he's possibly the best in the SEC. This year's recruiting class was huge, and there's a real possibility we'll see some big contributions from a couple guys in it (Crowell being the most important piece). Plus, the defense has had a year in the 3-4, and a couple of recruiting classes to fill it out.

It also helps that the other traditional SEC East powers, UF and UT, are down/rebuilding.

On the other hand, this is, in a lot of ways, still fundamentally the same team that went 6-7 last year, and it lost A.J. Green.

My guess has been that it's either 6-6 or 9-3/10-2 at the end of the season. I don't think there's a seven-or-eight-win middle ground. It's either they suck or they're good.

If I had to bet right now, my money is on this being a resurgence year for the Dawgs. There's a lot of buzz around the program, and if they can find a spark it could be a really special season. That said, putting aside my fandom, I wouldn't be completely shocked if the malaise from the last couple of years continues.

If it's really as extensive as it sounds, it's hard to imagine a scenario where Miami isn't absolutely hammered by the NCAA. I don't know about the death penalty, but it seems they'd get close.

Here's my take on the 'dawgs, for what it's worth -- O-line will not be what it was; AJ Green will be missed; they are hemorrhaging running backs. All that being said, their schedule is highly favourable, so I would not anticipate a repeat of last year's debacle. cool0044.gif

As for "da U", fok 'em. swear1.gif

BTW - this is some serious "pot calling the kettle black" from a Nole fan.

Also, you can have Jacory. He blows.

Probably an SEC invitation.

False equivalency FTL. FSU's only recent cheating scandal involved an online music class cheating where everyone, including some football players, was cheating. Even the NCAA said the school administration had nothing to do with it.

This seems a shyte sight worse than that, don't ya think?

Total side note - whatever ever happened to Willie Williams?

How long until the people who were duped go after the university and the better-off players with a lawsuit? I see this situation heading to where the Tobey Maguire poker games went with whatever Ponzi schemer out in California.

No, I meant about Cane fans being the most obnoxious.

He got booted off the team last year I believe.
