Sooo I'm taking this girl to the zoo...

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice.

I've been dating this girl for a while now, we've been hanging out, going to dinner, kissing/holding hands, but we're not official yet. I really like her and I want to ask her out. I'm only 19 now but my last real girlfriend was in high school. I don't just want to be like "Where are we? Do you want to go out with me?"

Any suggestions guys? How should I ask her? I'm sure she is going to say yes but I want it to be special.

My idea is that I'm going to take her to the Bronx Zoo and I'm going to bring a single rose in my backpack and just as we're about to leave, I'll give it to her. Anyone know of a romantic spot that doesn't smell like dung? Haha

Haha I feel like its much different in college...I'm not sure how to really ask her because right now both of us don't tell anyone we're a couple when they ask us. College is confusing hahaha

Yeah, under normal circumstances, I'd say kissing meant dating too but I'm in college as well so it's understandable. Some of my friends go on dates, make out, hit the sack, and never really officially go out. I don't know about asking her out at a zoo though. Decent date idea but I think you'd want to go for a place you both pass by every now and then so you can reminisce.

I don't really know about the Zoo idea, perhaps there's a local park? A park might be a bit boring though.
The aquarium area (I have no idea what to call it in proper English) might be a nice spot and it doesn't smell like dung. Go watch some tropical fish or dolphins.

Hmm I'll think about it but I need to get the job done now and quickly...funny thing is that she's more excited than I am about the zoo. I'm actually just wondering what to say not really the location. Would you go out with me feels so high school.

here's the trick - check where and when the various animals are fed. for instance, the bee eater birds are fed at 3 pm. these are pretty cool birds that catch live crickets in the air, that the zoo keeper and the people in the audience throw. it is actually a lot of fun. ditto watching the penguins and the seals. if you check out the times (on the website), you take control of the situation, and it looks like you put a little preperation into the expereince for her.

I think the zoo is a good idea for a date, especially if you really like the girl. It gives you lots of time to talk, and so you'll have plenty of time to tell her that you'd like her to be your gf. I'd perhaps avoid asking it in such a direct manner, but direct the conversation in that direction and see what she thinks. Perhaps suggest that you'd like to spend more time with her.

This reminded me of a particularly memorable line from "Rocky"...

Don't do the rose thing unless you know she's an absolute sap. If she wants to go out with you, a lack of rose won't change it, and if she doesn't, you just wasted money on a rose.

Why must you ask her directly and why is this an issue? Let things evolve and once you go out where others will see you, it will be obvious you are a couple. The only reason I can think of is if you fear she will see other guys and believe this will deter her from doing so, and even then, it's not the right strategy. The more "adult" way is usually to confirm that neither of you are seeing other people and again, this should be fairly obvious to both of you given the level of seriousness in the relationship and the frequency of your dates.

And whatever you decide to do, DO NOT tell her you sought advice about this on Style Forum.

BTW, the Zoo is a great date idea - have fun!

Haha right on.

How about just telling her "I like you", if you really want to find out where you guys are at? Basicly you're telling her how you feel and you can see how she reacts, perhaps she'll tell you she likes you as well or perhaps even more.
The animal feeding thing is also a pretty good idea also because some girls like a man who takes the initiative.

When will this date take place anyway? Maybe there are some special events during Halloween.

Hahaha I'm a very confident guy but I ask for advice on styleforum all the time...heck why not? You guys are AWESOME. I like hearing opinions outside of my group of friends and I could care less if she found out. I feel like the reason I need to ask her directly is not because I think she's going to see other people but because I want it to be final. All I've done in college was hook up with girls whenever I wasn't sober and this is the first time I've truly liked a girl for something other than her chest. We're pretty far into our relationship even though I feel like we're not official yet - we hold hands / kiss in public and do all the coupley things. Heck she even cooked for me today. I still haven't racked up a way to do it though...I think I might just be very direct about it...tell her I really like her, why I like her, etc and then get on my knees and give her a red rose since she has a soft spot for romantics. Rereading my original post I think I was a little unclear-I'm not worried about rejection at all and it hasn't even crossed my mind. I just want this moment to be truly memorable and special for her. If you feel you have to make it official then say something along those lines. Tell her that of all the girls you know, she's the only one that you truely enjoy spending time with.

And are you telling me that despite all this time you spend together she still doesn't introduce you as her bf? How long have you been seeing her?
