why do the stripes patterns do not match on the shoulder? isnt it a common detailing thing found on the high end garments?

my understanding is that doing so actually requires cutting the shoulders in an unnatural way, but I could be horribly wrong.

Anyway, great suit.

The stripes on the two pieces of fabric are not perfectly parallel with one another because of the way they come together (one is the flat frontispiece and the other is the curving sleeve); mathematically speaking, if you measured right at the seam where the sleeve fabric joins the chest fabric, the distance between each pinstripe will be different on the two pieces of fabric (the stripes on the shoulder are at a constantly changing angle to the seam because of the curvature) so there would be no way to match more than one or two of the lines. It's easy to pattern-match on a simple flat seam like down the back of a jacket or on a pocket flap, but this is a whole different beast and unless it's proven otherwise I'm inclined to say it wouldn't even be possible without some sort of trickery analogous to the mechanics of the congruent necktie.

The tailor will ease more fabric on the back side to account for the natural curvature there so that the piece on the back is longer than the piece it is adjoining on the front. Then the wrinkles of the larger piece are ironed out so that it appears to be two pieces of the same size, but unmatched. One of the ready to wear compromises allows these seams to match, but that is due to there not being additional fabric across the back of the shoulder, which would have been the proper method for a better fit.

This is a very, very nice suit. I sold one for $810. And I am regretting it already, even though I have other grey pinstripe suits.

The RLPL Custom Fit is just incredible
