Newer member here needs some help on fixing my Gucci loafers

I recently purchased the Gucci loafers below (see picture/link). Last week I spilled a drop of something(oil maybe?) onto the top of my shoe and it removed the polish completely. I tried whiping it off and there is now a small smudge on the top of my shoe. Can you please advise what type of shoe polish, or cream I should purchase?

I ordered some meltonian dark brown shoe cream, however when applied it doesn't cover up the smudge. It is as if the leather doesn't absorb it, I am not sure if what I spilled completely removed the leather dye?

Thank you very much for your help, the shoes have only been worn a few times and I can't believe whatever I spilled completely removed the polish/dye.

I emailed Gucci and have not heard back yet, I was thinking of heading down to Saks to see if they can help later today. I wanted to check here and see if anyone had any suggestions first.

Thanks!

Can you post a photo of the damage?

Look for a good leather/shoe repair place nearby and hope they can fix it is probably your best bet.

You'll be amazed at what a first rate shoe shine stand can accomplish. Find the best stand in your city and get them shined. I'm sure they'll be able to make the spot disappear.

Attached is a picture of the spot, makes me cringe looking at it.

I'd check with your favorite shoe shine, but unfortunately in terms of a permanent solution I'm not sure what could help.

I wanted to thank everyone for their replies, it has been very helpful. Unfortunately I wish I could polish it out, however that is definitely not the case. I have spoke with some cobblers and Gucci, who recommended re-dying the shoes (~$100 or so). The only downside is that the light stitching would be compromised and died the same color as the shoe; which was not acceptable to me right now. I am going to be purchasing some Saphir renovating cream (recommended by a few cobblers that it may cover up the stain) from Valmour, I figure the ~$20 is worth the try. If this doesn’t work I will send them back to Gucci.

Anyone have a good eye for colors, I am looking at:

-Dark Brown

-Boar Brown

-Plum

I am leaning towards Dark brown, but they all look close based on the color wheel.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a waterproofer/stain resistant spray or something I can treat the shoes with so this doesn’t happen in the future?

I cant tell from your response if you in fact did try, but why not let a competent cobbler in your area do their magic? I like to think I'm pretty good at polishing/maintenance on my shoes, but if I have any major issues like this I like to bring them to the best I can in NYC and usually have excellent results.

You might ask your cobbler if mineral spirits (my Dad used to call it "safety solvent") would work to remove it. This has the effect of stripping. Could be too extreme?

Close to 20 years ago, I was wearing a new pair of Bass Weejuns (made in USA ) that were alot of money to me at that time. I had just finished putting gas in my car and as I was hanging up the nozzle, I saw a drop of gas fall right on top of the shoes apron. Wiped it off immediately, but to no avail, ruined, I polished, had them polished...ruined. Ever since that date, I still swing the nozzle far away from my body. Maybe this is what happened and if so, only a redye will work...

Gucci will be repairing my shoes and I should get them back within the next week. I do however have concerns about this happening again.

Can anyone suggest a waterproofing or protective polish that may stop a solvent/liquid from eating directly through the dye/polish? Is there any way to protect from this happening again?

Thanks in advance for your help, this has been a pain and huge disappointment. I have allen edmonds that i wear daily, I have spilled beer, food etc by accident and I have never had any problems with the dye being removed.
