Ottavio Missoni also has an interesting biography. He was an Olympic athlete, a runner specializing in the 400 meter, and he fought in World War II, during which he was captured and held in a POW camp in Egypt. When he returned to Italy, he resumed running, and at the 1948 Olympic games in London, for which he designed the Italian team's uniforms, he met his wife, Rosita, who was there studying English. They married in 1953 and opened a small knitwear workshop in Italy. People started to take notice of their knits, and then their fame took off in 1967, when as NYMag puts it, "Rosita instructed models to remove their bras under sheer blouses at a fashion show in Florence and walk nearly nude (they weren't invited back)."
