Did you bulk up (from skinny to fit)? Was it worth it? - Page 7

I was a fat 240Lbs. my freshman yr. of college and then dieted down to an overly skinny 175 or so, at about 6'1". I got into lifting and brought it up to a very lean 210 or so in my early 20's and am taking another run at things now, currently at 230 Lbs. or so. Was it worth it? Absolutely, I'm 34 and have no desire to waltz around in girl's jeans like the kids these days so I might as well lift heavy things. I have replaced significant portions of my wardrobe twice in the last 2 years, however. My sartorial dream now is that Ed Morel will come out with more generously cut Panta's......picture related...

All I have to say at this point after gaining about 60 pounds or so from the past 4 to 5 years is that it takes time. Be patient, don't over stress ur body. Changes occur slowly.

+1. If you are thinking in terms of "bulking up" or "cutting" and you are not a professional body builder, you're going about it all wrong.

Eat a healthy diet, rich in whole foods and lean meats. Lift weights, do cardio, etc. Do it intense enough and let your body grow and get stronger naturally.

Adding lean muscle - even a pound of it, is incredibly hard to do and takes time.

My roommate is lean but ripped and he literally eats nothing all day and then has a small meal at 7pm. Another guy eats in the same way and is about 40lb overweight.

Well, eating more doesn't necessarily mean a faster metabolism if I understand correctly. For example, according to multiple news sources and websites, before Elvis Presley died he was eating over 85,000 kilocalories each day, but he wasn't gaining weight at a rate of 23lbs/day.
