so, the town we are moving to has no hardcore gym. the house, however, does have a 4 car garage. so here is what i am thinking.

cable croosover station
squat rack
good adjustable bench
dbells in the sizes i usually use: 25s, 45s, 50s, 75s, 90s, 110s and 140s
hammer strength smith machine
short curl bar, cambered bar, 2 olympic bars
dip and chin station
sorinex landmine
life cycle treadmill
hammer strength high row
hammer strength incline press
hammer strength shoulder press
preacher bench

figuring about a 17k investment. am i missing anything that i should plan for?

Bumper plates so you can slam down those bitches?

I want to train at Gym Kunk.

to walk on an 8 incline at 3.5 mph, i could prtobably get away with a $300 treadmill

How much of the garage will that take up?

instead of the squat rack, I suggest getting a power rack/cage..

you get the benefit of a squat rack while giving you the ability to do things like pin presses and rack deadlifts from various heights. (snp makes a nice one and scott, the owner, is a really nice guy)

another thing you might want to invest in is a deadlift bar if you plan to do a lot of deadlifting.

also, a safety squat bar if you like some core-smoking, torturous squats.

the last two bars aren't of vital importantance but I really do suggest a power rack/cage over a squat rack. oh yeah, and a deadlift jack if you plan on doing deadlifts.

Man, I realize that my ideal home gym and yours are entirely different:

Power Rack - Sorinex or EliteFTS or Rogue with pull-up bar
Platform
Regupol flooring everywhere else
Bar - Eleiko for Olympic lifts and whatever for power lifts.
Bumpers - Eleiko or Werksan or any high end ones + Hi-Temps for outdoors.
Rings for dips and pull-ups and push-ups
Bench
Reverse Hyper
GHD

Not sure why you would need much else. Like why bother with any of the press machines at all? Also, I'd go with a rower over a treadmill, since you can always run outside (or just get both). Curl bars I think are also less effective, a flat bar just seems to do better for building biceps for strength or hypertrophy. Maybe add a sled or prowler, plyo boxes, etc.

^ +1 for the reverse hyper and ghd but I find those cambered bars are very useful for some movements for certain movements. for example, some people with tendinitis (including me) find it easier on the elbow to do skullcrushers and curls with a cambered bar rather than a straight bar. much like I find it more comfortable to do a overhand grip or hammer grip on pullups/downs rather than a supinated grip, which I can't do much without pain in my right elbow.

Save the $17000 and use it to travel the world. Drive to the shitty town gym instead.

What is an 8 incline percentage wise? I can never figure that out. I've switched to walking on an incline on non lifting days ever since I started being serious about more strength training. What are you using the smith machine for? Also wondering what a guy like you is doing the the chest/shoulder/and row machines. Seems like a lot of unnecessary money and space wasted.

Every machine is different. Its completely non-standardized.

lifting platform, squat racks, olympic bar, bumper plates and a seat to sit on between sets. also have a pull up bar and rings. sandbag. road bike and mountain bike. i have no use for anything else. any other gear is superfluous imo.
