I preferred sizing down for classic Bedale too.
But I think getting Bedale SL is a better choice

All the Bedale SL I've seen from British Websites are sized S instead of 36.
I'm just wondering if Barbour expanded the SL line to UK with a different fit.

By the way, I do like the fit of this SL compared to the boxier classic.  Having said that, the jacket doesn't seem near as "heavy" or "substantial" as my classic version.  So confused...

I actually went from a 38 in the classic to a 36 in the SL, so obviously that's a big difference.  I'm 5'9", 158 lbs, a 38"-40" chest, and a 31"-32" waist (athletic build I assume).

I know this has been over a year. Hope you're still here.

How did the 36 Bedale SL fit with you?
I'm usually a 36S suit jacket and got XS Ashby.
Should I get 36 SL Bedale?

Thanks

I ended up returning the SL Bedale in a size 36 only because the version I ordered in olive was a lighter 4oz fabric versus the 6oz that I was looking for. However, from what I recall, the fit was fantastic. I ended up with a small Ashby in olive and the 6oz fabric and I love it! The Ashby is a similar fit to the SL Bedale from what I remember. The only thing that doesn't fit just right in the Ashby is the chest area when I wear a thicker sweater and shirt underneath. So at times I wish it was a little looser in the chest (which a small standard Bedale would give me). I also at times don't like the polyester lining in the arms - it makes my arms so hot when layering (not breathable at all). And, yes, I would go with a 36 SL Bedale.

Think the last pic on this page is the original of the Shoredace/Tokito jacket:

Kind of interesting.

Has anyone tried this jacket before?

I wear XS in Ashby and S in Digby, wondering this jacket in S will be too big

I think this was originally made for the japanese market, so it probably runs small.

This same model was on sale for $175 at Notre Shop last week.

Friends,

Happy Holidays!

I'm looking at a Bedale for some winter travel. Is this still the best for a business traveler who wants to cover a suit jacket?

Does the quality hold up over time? It looks pretty solid.

Thanks.

Ashby and Bedale SL fit pretty much the same.
Why don't you compare the measurements as listed on End with your Ashby.
End measurements aren't always the most accurate but I've found them helpful.

My understanding is that the Beaufort is more suitable than the Bedale if the goal is to cover a suit jacket.

Huh, Orvis told me the opposite as the Bedale is longer in length.

@BLAUGRANA and @kentpope are right. The Beaufort is longer. I think it is fine for 40 Fahrenheit+ weather with a suit, but not sure how much lower I would dip than that. With a liner maybe down to 30, but definitely not colder than that for me.

Ah they were gone already. i live pretty close to Chicago and could have a chance to try it out.

THanks for the info!

There is no doubt that Beaufort is longer than Bedale.

I'm short guy 5'9" and 36 Beaufort is like a top coat in length to me
