I have a 42" inch chest and wear "Slim Fit Large" in J Crew shirts. A similar fit in regular fit could be Medium. My cardigan sweaters from J Crew and RRL are all medium. I wear a large Barbour Liddesdale and could probably wear it in Medium. I can also wear a size 40 Barbour Bedale, and according to Barbour, that corresponds to "Medium" for their jackets. Obviously 44" is bigger but he could conceivably fit into a lot of medium garments out there

I get that, but how does someone with a 44'' chest fit into a jkt that has a listed flat p2p of only 20.5'' (End's measurement)?

Otoh, this makes a lot more sense:

44 as measured with a tape. I wear 40-42 suits depending on the brand and medium uniqlo shirts for example.

You must have mismeasured somehow, because I have a 40" chest and couldn't fit in the Medium to save my life. Then again, my shoulders are quite broad

anrobit's measurements are right.

I'll take a picture when I get a chance.

Wait a minute, we've got one guy who measure 44" and takes a medium Commander, and another guy who measures 40" and takes an XL?

To be fair, I prefer to layer under mine and need it for the shoulder and sleeve measurements.

To be fair, it is pretty snug in the chest with just a tshirt on underneath. I can layer it if I want though.

^^^^ I spent all last fall trying to get the right size! Was frustrating.

Me too, but then again I'm 5'8" and the Bedale sleeve length (size 38) is perfect for me.

Seriously. I haven't had a chance to try one on but the lady at the Barbour store said I'd have to size up 1 in it. I'm a 38 in Bedale and a S in Liddesdale (lots of extra space around the midsection with that one which is why I didn't buy it) and she said I'd be a L in the Commander.

That Barbour Birch I posted a few pages back is getting returned. The armholes were just too high on it for it to be comfortable over a prolonged period of time. I'm thinking of going with a Chelsea instead and was trying to figure out if I should order a S or M. I saw conflicting measurements and reviews so just placed an order for both and figure I can return or resell the one that doesn't fit.

Nice! I'm thinking of getting one too. Are you getting the sportsquilt version? Post back on how warm that feels. I wanna get one for the spring but I don't want anything that will make me sweat.

Yeah, the sports quilt version. I'm guessing they should be here next week sometime. I'll post pics of me wearing both sizes so people can get an idea of the size difference between the 2.

Anyone own/tried on the Bedford? It says "classic fit" but am not sure what that really means. I have a medium in the Ashby and it wears a bit tight, especially in the shoulder. However, the Ashby is a "modern cut." So I'm wondering if I should stick with a medium or size up. For reference I generally hover between a medium and large, with around a 41" chest...

Any insight?
