The saleswoman said that's how this jacket is meant to fit - almost like a blazer. She also said the fit is very hit or miss and depends on your body type. With the Commander jacket, you'd have to size up even more so in my case I'd be an L.

Dept. B in my experience is even more fitted than To Ki To was.  It depends on the piece and it's slight, but noticeable.  Bragh was one such example while the Shoredace was just like last year.  This is mainly at the armhole, which tends to be too high, and in the shoulder area.

Barbour says they can add an extra inch to the armholes of my Commander jacket which would give them and the chest more room. Anyone have any idea how this would look or how noticeable it would be? Also, any idea where the extra cloth would actually be added?

No idea, but I would imagine they'd have to add some cloth.  Would love to hear how and see some pics.

Question about fit. Just got my beaufort and I'm in between sizes in suit jackets. Sometimes a 38, sometimes a 40.  Depends cut and brand. So I went with a 38. I'm 5'11 170 and the sleeves go right to the edge of my hand. The cuffs literally just hit the point between my wrist and my hand. I'm just wondering what your guys opinion is on a fit like this? I would take pictures but its kinda hard to take pictures of the sleeves when I have to hold the camera.....I feel like they could be JUST too short.

Kinda fits me exactly how it fits on the nordstrom models. What's your guys opinion on this fit?

I have the classic Bedale and the Ashby. Bedale SL is supposed to be just a bit shorter in length than the classic Bedale. Not sure if it's slimmer through the chest as well. Bedales also have the elastic cuffed inner sleave and the Ashby doesn't. Ashby does have the cordoruy trim at the cuff of the inner sleeve though. But I prefer the elastic action on the Bedale vs. the Ashby.

I just got my first Barbour, (Beaufort) for Christmas, so I am by no means a Barbour expert. Before I got the jacket I tried on several sizes, I am usually a 42R in suits/sport coats. I tried on the 40, 42, and 44. I wanted to be able to wear the Beaufort over just a shirt, for fall, but also to layer over a sweater or sport coat in winter.

I went with the 42, the 44 was simply too big, and the 40 was just right for wearing with a shirt, but wasnt really suited to wear with a chuncky sweater, or a sport coat.

On both the 40, and 42, I would describe the sleeve length as "just right" leanning towards a "hair" too short. The sleeve lenght of the 44 was a bit better, but not "overcoat" sleeve length... When I say a hair short, or just right, I mean if it was a half inch longer it would be perfect for me. When I wear a well fitting shirt under the coat, the coat jsut covers the cuff of the shirt, so not too short, but another half inch would be great.

So to sum up, I think the sleeves on Barbour coats, or Bauforts more specifically, are just right leaning towards a hair short, not too short to return, or go up a size...

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I might try and get a size up to my regular Jacket size. It fits perfectly, but maybe too perfectly. So if anyone wants a barbour tag size 38 in sage, give me a PM.

I ordered the Commander in XL.  It is definitely an odd duck of a jacket.  It looks like outerwear, but it's cut like a tailored jacket.   The jacket body fits me closely but not so tight that the buttons pull when closed.  Like all Barbour jackets, the shoulders are a little close for my body type.  With the cool triangle thingy buttoned shut, the collar is really tight, almost uncomfortably.  The sleeves are so long that when my arms hang at their sides my hands are completely covered.

It really ends up being a weird hybrid between a tailored jacket and outerwear.  If I mentally treat it as tailored clothing, the fit is good (except the sleeves are way too long).  If I mentally treat it as outerwear, it's too tight (collar and shoulders) to really do anything more active than walk the dog.

All that said, I like it.  It does make for a good cool-weather-walk-the-dog jacket, or for going to the local microbrew house.  Hope this info helps others on the sizing front.

Thank you for the comments on sizing.

Sounds like the jacket would fit me well, except for those sleeves. I am a 33/34 sleeve.

I think Barbour do offer alteration services, if the long sleeves really annoy you.

I have two Barbours currently and trying to get a black International. The international is a classic. Had one years ago and regret getting rid of it. Will be getting another pronto.

I think by the end of the year I will own 3-5 Barbours. I am an addict, what can I say.

I actually really like the sleeve length on my bedale especially with the inner sleeve. Most jackets feel ever so slightly too long for me.

Anyone here own the commander jacket? Does this jacket fit true to size? And is it oily?

So .... should I go ahead and order a bedale in a 38, knowing full well I'll eventually get around to selling the 40 I have on ebay, or should I be responsible and wait?

ENABLE ME.
