I've got one! The 554, to be specific. Love it! I'll have to get around to posting a picture. I use it for everything from a camera bag (foam insert for protection, a range bag to hold ammunition/pistol/cleaning kit/etc., a travel bag and just a regular bag for carrying books/documents/etc.

And I have yet to see anyone else (in person) with it!

Hi guys , I've seen a really cool looking Belstaff jacket it's called the Trialmaster deluxe in dark green, does anybody own this jacket as I have only seen it online on a stores website, what do you think? Is it worth the £500 or so or would I be better looking at a similar Barbour jacket for half the cash?
I used to own a bel staff jacket about 25 years ago when I had a motorbike, never thought of it as a fashion jacket and regrettably I let the guy have it when he bought the bike from me. Any feedback welcome.

Jules , The Trialmaster is a great jacket. I have a 30 + year old jacket that some kid offered to buy off my back a couple of years ago walking out of Water Tower Place in Chicago.He chased me down a couple of blocks he felt so strongly about it. In the past old biker types would make comments about it but no one else . More recently they have become more stylish and it seem as if they are the go to leather jacket for movies (Motorcycle Diaries, I Am Legend,War of the Worlds, The Aviator,The Departed....).I believe that is because of their new Italian owners that are more market savvy than the previous English owners of the company. They are now made in Italy for better or worse. A few years ago you could pick them up very inexpensively on ebay but that does not seem to be the case anymore. If you go that route I would not be hesitant to pick one up with some wear , they look better that way to me and clean up well. I have 6 and have given a couple away that did not fit well after ebay buys ,they run small or at least the English made jackets did. I wear a 42 suit jacket but a 46 Belstaff leather and a 44 in the Trialmaster which is a cordura like material for the cold weather model and waxed cotton for the summer weight. My wife wears a green waxed cotton version of the Trialmaster that i just cleaned and reproofed for her. I used to wear my Trialmaster when riding my dirt bike up trails in Colorado and encountered rain and snow often but invariably I was the driest and warmest of our group . If i can figure out how to attach a photo i will post one and show you how new a close to 40 year old jacket can look, they were really made well.

classic tourist trophy in brown (trialmaster handmade for motorcycle use- this is belstaffs best kept secret. Comes with shoulder and elbow pads and a zip in vest with the thickest wax cotton they use for less than the price of the fashion trialmaster)

I don't like the old English ones. They were made well, but were too plain. The new super expensive ones are price gouged through the roof.

The past 2-3 years from the Italians were good if you knew which models to buy. They became so popular a lot of them were being produced in china, and the quality dropped a lot. Some models were still made in italy though if you knew which ones to look for... like I said, and they were as good if not better than the older english ones.

The j.crap belstaff often had a higher price than the euro version, and had less features or was made more poorly. The finishes on their leather is amazing. Their waxed jackets are a step above too. Don't believe me? Just go buy a barbour- Rough material, oily wax on your hand when you touch it. Belstaffs soft material, thicker material, wax that doesn't feel oily.... The often use new materials first or develop new materials such as their mission impossible ballistic fabric, the belway fabric, the longway down jacket uses 1000 count cordura which is unheard of, most of the leather is also tanned with 3m scotchguard built in

barbour is not in the same league as a belstaff. The belstaff will be nicer in every way. The zipper, the snaps, the cotton, the lining, the wax itself. Everything is nicer on a belstaff.

A hilarious and accurate question, but I think it's important to note some major differences in the brands. So many people want to compare Barbour and Belstaff. I know a ton of people here are loyal to Barbour. They make a really good-looking jacket, and the Sylkoil isn't that problematic. However, for true motorcycle gear—not these fashion-centric items you've cited—I don't see any way Barbour can compete since, quite simply, they offer no jackets with protective gear, and Belstaff's motorcycle jackets come with protectors standard. I have a Belstaff Mojave in brown and a Belstaff Riding Jersey in green (I just can't do black...). They both offer protection from impact, in the form of actual shoulder and elbow protectors, and from weather. Barbour can only offer the latter. Great for strolling the English countryside or a simplified cosmopolitan look. Not on a bike.

What's more, I have a 34" chest, and Belstaff makes jackets that actually fit me. Whereas Barbour's size 32 might provide a slim fit for someone with a 38 inch chest...

As for the wretched items you cited, well...I wouldn't be caught dead in any of it. But I rely on Belstaff for protection first, fashion second, and they haven't disappointed me on either front yet.

I picked up a Belstaff jacket off of ebay but I noticed that the zipper is on the LEFT side (when wearing). Is this a men's jacket or a women's?

Also, I'm normally a Medium but the tag says XL (although the measurements are similar to mine). The arms are slightly longer than I expected so did I pick up a woman's Belstaff jacket??

All Belstaff jackets, regardless of gender, are made with left-side zips, in keeping with European fashion tradition (just FYI, Barbour does the same). Regarding the sizing, that's very surprising because I find Belstaff to be either slightly larger than true to size (and I mean slightly) or true to size. Which jacket is it?

Does anyone know of reviews of the "Colonial" bags Belstaff was producing a few years ago? I'd like to invest in one, but they're so expensive due to being cut from production. I'm just not sure they justify the price point they're going for.

Any thoughts or experiences with these bags?

I own a Roadmaster, and I would say Belstaff runs true to size or slim. Additionally agree, like all European zippers, these zip on the left. I believe Barbour is the same.
