I wouldn't drop $225 for a Robert David. I spent $40 one in olive wood a while back, and I would say that it was a reasonable amount for what I got. The fit and finish aren't bad, the blade is made of okay steel, and it certainly isn't too flimsy for regular use. The general internet consensus is that it's easy to do better. Buck makes a better knife at half the price. If you want an attractive, classy folder, there can generally be better options found with a bit of shopping around. Do you have a preferred price range, size, style, material, and performance in mind?

NO. I just want a "gentleman" knife with lots of handwork detailings. However, the blade needs to be thick. Anything folded under 7" is good for me. Do you have anything mind like that to your preferences?

how practical are those very curvy swords (like in real fight)? It doesn't seem like you can thrust or chop in the ways of the katana.

apparently they were primarily used on horseback where the light weight of the sword was a major advantage. some of them can be used for thrusting but slashing seems to be their primary function.

the khanda or double edged sword is primarily used for thrusting.

I really want a Himalayan Imports kukri. Someday, I'll get one for a wall hanger.

I'm not a huge knife nut but I am anxiously waiting for my fourth Randall, which was ordered in 2007 and should be hitting my doorstep sometime in 2012.

Himalayan Imports is the shiz. Get one of their slightly damaged ones (I had one with a slight crack in the horn handle) for next to nothing.

Pantisocrat- here you go. Each of these should be within range and will make the other option look like trash.
