Yeah, reminds me of when I stopped buying. $20 used to get a thick stack when I started, and I put the brakes on when it started getting a really thin stack. FWIW, this was in '88

Kids don't read comic anymore. It's all people who grew up reading them. You are right that it has got expensive. I cut back on my weekly pull list and often wait for graphic novels to hit.

I am going to get back into reading comic books. Haven't since HS. Used to like Xmen and their spinoffs, and none of the DC heroes on their on, just JLA stuff.

This is the last series of comics I've purchase. It was $2.99-$3.50 when I last purchased comic books iirc and I noticed that it stacked pretty quick on a weekly basis so I stopped buying. I used to buy 5-8 every Wednesday and that adds up to $15-$30 a week easily.

I grew up a Marvel fanboy. Stopped reading in Highschool, then got back into them while in college. Now I'm a much bigger fan of what DC is doing and their characters.

Graphic novels are the best way to read comics these days. Cheaper and you get whole, contained, story arcs in book form.

So I have to ask, have any of you had the pleasure of reading STARMAN? Stuff was greatness.

Funny you should ask that. I missed out on a lot of 90s comics, being quite young at the time, and when I did start reading comics, I stuck with Marvel for the first bit. (Which is weird, I read more Marvel, though I enjoy the individual heroes from DC more....)

And so just today I was thinking about purchasing this:

At this point I would recommend just buying the Omnibus editions of STARMAN. They are complete (unlike the regular trades) and have all the issues contained within their pages. It's brilliant stuff.

I may end up doing this. I've heard good things; and it seems to be worth it.

I just started the fifth Starman Omnibus. I had never read it when it originally came out, it's really ******* good. Really enjoyable universe, with the relationship with his father and the city, and Jack is just a great character.

Definitely get the omnibus's as they also collect the Shade mini series, which was good and had some beautiful Gene Ha art. They can be had for about $33 each on amazon, free shipping included. Definitely worth the price and they look fantastic.

I hardly buy comics at all anymore, just a couple of artist's I collect, the rest is all trades. they are better in every way imaginable.

TradePaperBacks people, not Graphic Novels. Devil's in the details.

Anybody who's interested in finding things to read should check out their local libraries. They stock this **** you know.

I just too recently began collecting comics again and I agree that the price for comics these days hurt. But, I'm glad that I'm finally able to pick up a hobby I enjoyed doing as a kid and have the funds to finally follow a storyline instead of missing out on an issue or two. Haha.

I have not read Starman. However... i think the same writer did JSA: The Golden Age. That was a really great story.

I still buy a few titles monthy, ****'s 'spensive, but I'm hopelessly addicted so...

I offset this expense by keeping my hold list at the public library stocked with at least 10 trades at any given time so I always have something to read. The only trades that I buy are 'The Walking Dead' because I constantly go back an re-read that series.
