They're just for show.

Great, now you tell me. For the last few weeks, I've been using one to carry severed heads to and from the laboratory.

In regards to J. Crew bags: I picked up a messenger bag on sales about 2-3 years ago for $30 or so. I used it every day, carrying a lot of crap. I used to throw it around everywhere too. It's held up fine, no holes or tears.

If you're a crew card holder, there's a 20% off code no minimum free ship that ends 8/25.

It fits like a glove. Perfect for layering in the cold NYC fall/winter. I recommend it.

damn. Want this but NO SMALL!

As a former J. Crew employee...the quality has nose dived in certain things the last couple years...including messenger bags. Perhaps you bought one when the quality was still decent. Some stuff has stayed pretty consistent like the secret washed shirts, but overall the stuff isn't like how it was even 3-4 years ago.

Ordered the British Millerain oilcloth field jacket on a whim.
A definite keeper (was surprised how well it fit me).
Hopefully it's well made and will hold up. . .

(Will let the board no if it doesn't.)
