with what shoes of his have you handled and observed this?
I have two pairs of epaulet collabs (field boot, chukka) and I think they're great. The leather is supple/thick and they're very well constructed.
The field boots esp - they've been through the worst of what we've had in boston this winter and they're looking/feeling great.
the stuff of his at urban outfitters looks crap, but everything else i've handled or worn is pretty solid.

from my experience his collabs (eg x ACL, Engineered Garments, ePaul) are fine. But his solo line, and the "red brick sole" collection (which I have purchased and returned ASAP in the past) feel extremely cheap. Nordstroms makes a shit pair of comparable quality bucks and for a 1/3 of the price you would have to be a complete label whore to opt for McNairy.

He is spread too thin. Capitalizing on his name and former JPress affiliation. Spitting out poorly manufactured crap and dressing like a fucking style-confused teenager all the while. What IRL application do those shoes have outside of looking like an oddball?
The painter pants he did for ACL didn't sell at their redic price of $220 (hammer loop circa Gap jeans 1996, anyone?). The 8 pocket cargo pants he did for ACL didn't sell (8 pockets, anyone?) and majority all dumped to tres bien and places the like who offer his shit
