Just curious what your opinions are on this jacket. I have been looking for a velvet dinner jacket for a while and was also thinking of having one made bespoke but the timing and money for one hasnt worked out. Does anyone have any experience with there fit and quality, they say they can have one made in a 38R for me.

In what context, and with what, would you wear it? For me, I hate it looks in their picture - the peaked lapels with the jeans doesn't work for me.

Who makes Ben Silver's stuff? I mean, I know that's not exactly a common item on the 'bay, but $1k is steep for a cotton jacket.

The lapels just don't look right to me. I vote that you keep looking for a better example.

What about this one

That is really cool, but unfortunately way too big.

No, I agree the jeans are a bad look. I was actually looking for a black one and not blue but havent been able to find one thats not a trendy designer. I think you have to go with peaked on a velvet jacket, i mean you could go notched but it wouldnt be very formal. Im not sure myself who makes BenSilvers stuff and yeah the 1k pricetag is definetly steep but bespoke could easily cost double that, which is why i was asking if anyone had any knowledge of there products. Oh well, i guess i will just wait and eventually go with bespoke in black.

To my eye, the peak on the lapel, is too high. But, I love the color.

Black is nice, but I think velvet jackets look nice in a rich, deep hued color - something like dark burgundy, midnight blue, dark bottle green, or mocha.

Hey'vryone,
James, like you I was interested in adding a velvet jacket to my wardrobe and hope the sellers I used will be of some help.
I resorted to eBay and got a Holland Esq. jacket from a seller called specialplace. Perhaps they might have something in your size, if you like this make.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I am wearing it to a friend's wedding in Queenstown, NZ this December. They are having both a Hindu and Christian ceremony, allowing me to showcase the best of my culture and be a little more experimental with the coat and pants routine.
I am uploading some pics as they appeared in the auction, (have yet to see the jacket as I had them shipped to my fiance in MA.) as well as a third which illustrates the colour palette I am working off.
I got my tie over the weekend, but have no picture yet. It is a burnt orange with fine black paisley etchings worked into the silk by Dolce and Gabbana.
Not sure of the colour of shirt, but am leaning towards white with french cuffs and large, uber-gaudy cufflinks- my main devil-may-care tendency.
The shoes were also an ebay special, Alfeo Pisani http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I bought them cos they look nice and I have nothing like them; it won't matter if I never hear of Pisani again, since I take great pride in replicating expensive looks on a meagre spend. This is why eBay is such a godsend.
