As a retired OG raver (DJing since 95) I can tell you how to school the noobs you will find at your raves this year. Here's at least three possibilities you can work with.

Option 1: (Pay close attention at 1:10):

To rave in this style you will need:

1. Gas mask (not the cheap painter's masks used for the vicks; that's for rookies).
2. Any kind of full-body suit (painter, military, gorilla, the sweatier the better)
3. An emu (preferably domesticated, though wild will do in a pinch).

Option 2:

Pretty self-explanatory about what you will need here.

Option 3:

1. A boombox
2. A dog outfit
3. A cast and a crutch

Or, there is of course always the diaper.

But in all seriousness, just don't go. It really ended like 12 years ago and no matter how hard you try, it will never be as good as the early to mid 90's. You can't fake the kind of spontaneous energy that was there before it got mainstream and commercialized. Now you got idiots like Deadmau5 and his laptops and Skrillex and that dubstep stuff that's supposed to pass for music.

Build a time machine, travel back to 1988 and stock up on Joe Bloggs gear?

Failing that psychedelic-patterned hoodies, oversize T-shirts with smiley logo, bandanas, baggiest jeans you can find, preferably stonewashed or dungarees, pastel coloured wallabees or Kickers boots, accessorise with smiley face badges, whistles, glo-sticks, gas-mask...

I'm a frequent raver and I usually just wear t-shirts and beater jeans. The key is to wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty in. Leave everything nice/expensive at home, including your watch. Stay cool, keep yourself hydrated, and enjoy the event. The clothes you're wearing should be the last thing on your mind.
