Sao Paulo trip

I'm going to Sao Paulo in mid February for 4/5 days.

Any recommendations, what to do, see, eat, shop?

good time of year for it. first - on a wed or a saturday, have beans, fejuada. there is a place called bolitos, which is a very good example, but many places have it. you want the full deal. have pizza - there are, again, lots of places that have sao paolo style pizza. you can ask at your hotel for one nearby. and one evening go to a traditional brazilian steak place. one morning, go to the central market - its a huge produce market. the traditional thing to eat is the mortodela sandwhich, or the cod fritters. the fruit selection is crazy. have fun http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22595

I didn't pick the time of year as it's for work, if you can call a furniture launch work, but I'm certainly not complaining


I had a look a the market, as I will definitely try to go there and from what I've heard there should be a large italian minority in Sao Paulo, so Pizza sounds like a must, thanks for link.

I always go for business (I'm actually going to be there tomorrow) and stay in the Jardin district. so I can give you specific recommendations, but they will be expensive and in that part of town. the city is huge - it can take 2 hours and 100 bucks to get across town by taxi, so if you are in a different part of town, or on a budget, my recommendations won't help. let me know

this is my all time favorite restaurant. go on a saturday or wed at about noon, lots of beautiful people, great food. that is when you can have the bean lunch. 100 bucks for a plate of beans, but the best beans you will ever have.

let me get back to you with the name of a steakhouse, although Baby Beef, is an excellent one, with fantastic food, they don't do the whole all you can eat thing which is a must.

in the other thread I linked there are the names of a few pizza places.

there is a great cigar store/coffee shop very close to the intercontinental, I think it is just called the cuban cigar store or something like that. you can get a cup of coffee with a shot of brandy for 3 bucks, and then spend your money on a fantastic cigar.

The restaurant with the beans and the big tree sounds nice and for some reason the pizza with banana and chocolate looks very appealing.

top 3 restaurants in SP in my opinion are: DOM (contemporary food), Jun Sakamoto (awesome japanese food), and Fasano (classic italian). all three of those are -not- cheap, but it will be hard to have a bad meal and all are unique in their own way. Enjoy your time there and hope you pay for some helicopter taxiing or you will see that Los angeles traffic is a cake walk next to Sao Paulo! ps. At least the first two restaurants if not all 3 are in the Jardins area.

Figueira is very nice.. was there a couple of months ago... fejioada (think all kinds of pork meats stewed with beans) is awesome.. go on a Sat during their "winter" just fabulous with an awesome dessert buffet.... my first time there I made the mistake of asking for one of their larger steaks.. ouch.. on Sunday mornings there's a neat little flea market beneath MASP on Paulista Ave.. amazing finds.. try to buy all of your "tourist t-shirts" from the vendors across the street on the sidewalk. If you wait until you get to the airport you will be dropping serious coin for a lousy t-shirt at the dufree.. and at BR-111 you'll drop $50-$100 USD for a decent "Sao Paulo" t-shirt For churrasco.. hands down the best place is Jardineira.. pricey but everything is perfection and the caipirinha guy with his little cart elevates the drink to an art form .. Roughly a 2 hour drive away is Santos and Sao Vicente beaches.. nice during the hot weather but parking is a bitch.. I usually stay in the Brooklin area.. my company's offices are around there...so I can't help with any of the Jardin hotels. As someone mentioned.. traffic is absolutely a nightmare.. worse than Beijing for those that know how bad that is... and Brasil just became the 4th largest car market in the world.. great Think of this view.. but 360 degrees.. that's Sao Paulo

I did the churrasco this week at vente harigato - probably the best one I've had, I've been there before as well as Jardineira, but this time was fantastic.

I stayed this week at the renaissance, I think that will become my go to place. also, the name of the cigar place I suggested above is tobaco roma, on santos not to far from the vienna bookstore.

Fasano not to be missed. Best Italian in the Americas, and fantastic for business entertaining.
