Salute of the Jugger is a fun low budget one than springs to mind.

"The Cars that Ate Paris" might fit into this category. Weird and barely watchable early Peter Weller film.

Why? It sucked.

Those both sucked, the Vincent Price version (Last Man on Earth) trumps both and the novel is better than any of them.

The Quiet Earth is one of my favorites of this genre.

Zardoz technically fits. Sean Connery in a diaper!

Cherry 2000. I won't say anything more than WATCH THIS MOVIE!

"Soylent green" (1973) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070723/

I wish I had time to read this whole thread.

As cheesy as it is, I really enjoyed Logan's Run.

Grim, gritty and makes you want to jump out a fucking window. The book is just as terminally boring but not quite as sad since you don't actually get to see the kid crying over his dead father. Conflicts with my medication.

For amusement, try the "28 Days..." series. Gross but funny.

Yes. Cherry 2000 is awesomely awesome with a side of awesome sauce! If Soylent Green, A Boy and His Dog and Omega Man make the list, C2K belongs on it as well. Honestly, though, The Quiet Earth is the best, most underrated film in this genre (IMO, of course). A man wakes up from a near death experience to find that (almost) everyone in the world has disappeared at once, due to an experimental energy technology gone awry. I've always had the impression that Danny Boyle was referencing this movie when the protagonist of "28 Days Later" wakes up to find London deserted.
