Does this setup work? Friend says No - Green socks. Burgundy shoes. Navy Blue suit.

Socks are fine and muted, tie is a bit JAB-esque, but the suit looks fantastic and fits well.

Another vote for changing the tie. Socks are pretty muted and look good with suit and shoes.

For this kettle of sharks, yes, I count as a newbie - but not in terms of my sartorial experience. Posting here is a much different thing that at AAAC - over there, people are nicer, but often not as insightful as here, where expression of opinion can easily trump personal feelings (especially if the feelings in question are someone else's).

That being said, I've not been attacked here - yet - and I just was gratuitously had at by a troll on AAAC the other day.

I thought green socks were useless, I'd picked up a couple pairs over the years and never wore them.

but I like them in that example.

A darker shade perhaps, or a forest green would be nicer still.

Keep the socks and consider a subdued tie of dark red with some pattern that might include a similar green. Such as a Cappelli from Will.

Not unless he wants to look like a Christmas ad. In theory, green+red is fine, in practice it's what I *always* remember when I see it.

Brilliant response - I have to do this more often! The tie is blown out, due to the flash, it has blue in it as well. That was the reasoning at least with wearing it with the navy blue suit. Point taken the tie must go.

The shoes as not my favorite but they are made by "Mezlan", a present from a friend in the USA. Not my favorites but for the price they will do, their quality can be underwhelming but this set has served me reasonably well the last 12 months... being that I have wore them 10 times...

Suit is a 130S - 140S I had a few made and I forget where this one falls. Unfortunately with my build I have to have them all tailored from scratch and darted heavily. But they do an amazing job.. Ill have to post a pic using my phone of the stitching...

cheers

Shoes close up - they look good but only time will tell on their quality..

Stitching don't know if this is normal but I do have a particular liking to this

Finally I see this in paris - the buttons on the suit sleeves are functional ie open, so I copied it still not sure why but I see people doing it. My colleague commented on it and I was too embarrassed to ask why haha

Leaving the buttons open is a, "Hey look, I have a bespoke suit! Worship before my wallet!" thing.

Green is a ***** to combine. You're gaining some forgiveness just because the overall look is so good (and the tie distracting from the socks in kind of sartorialist self-sacrifice).
Other than that, they don't work in their original purpose (but they can do pretty well as a fire starter to attract conversation towards fashion/style talking when with acquaintances).

Translating: it comes across as bourgeois or a bit arrogant? That is good to know.. tough getting caught up with this whole new aspect of clothing.

I just spent 30 minutes this morning trying to find out what the heck channeling and fiddleback meant for shoes...

cheers
