Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts? - Page 562

I'm ordering my first pair of Whites's trough Baker's. It's been a great experience so far, and the boots are ready. I asked for a picture before having them shipped and when I zoomed in I notices something where the second row of stitches start. It might be loose leather or welt, not sure. Will this become a quality issue in the future? It would be very complicated to exchange them from where I live.

Thats nothing to worry about.. it is not even a defect but just how the boot is made..

Thanks. Another image, zoomed in. I can just cut the loose leather tip to avoid pulling

Yup.. just be careful not to cut the stitch...

It's just the way the boot is made.

Can someone remind me -- What is the Vibram sole that looks like a half sole but is attached to a full length leather outsole..?  I am blanking on it.  (Some have had trouble with it marking floors...)

@linafelt  It is the Mini Lug Commando Sole

It is also the composition half sole.

Which I don't have a picture of, but it's on my oxfords. Although this one doesn't mark floors...

Here is a picture of the composition half-sole (with a car's paw heel).

Perhaps more appropriate for this thread, the composition half-sole with a Quabaug heel on a Farmer Rancher. Never had problems with it marking floors.

Thanks guys, it's the mini lug commando that I am interested in. The composition half sole is different-- it is a separate half sole, without that extra layer of midsole, which I like, as well as the dovetail into the leather.  I know the composition half sole is harder wearing, but I am not wearing my boots especially hard, so I don't mind.

Now, does anyone know if it has a number (like the 269 or 430) -- I don't want any confusion on the resole.

Yeah, it's this one.

Commando mini lug sole - Vibram #1273

That was the build I got on my Nicks.

I actually wanted the Vibram 430 that I got on my Whites but the half sole does look cool where the heel is all leather.  Don't get the 430, it's a full sole.
