Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts? - Page 57

Thanks!

So, I've been thinking all along that I would be ordering some configuration of the Semi-Dress, but now I am wondering if I should consider also the 6" Farmer Rancher.  I like the extra leather heel cap (or whatever that piece is called at the back of the boot) and the generally more rugged look.  I had in mind that the Farmer Rancher or Smokejumper would be taller than I want, but I see they are available in 6", and that's actually what my current Chippewas are - though for some reason the FR and SJ have more eyelets.

Anyway, can anyone (1) post a picture of SDs and FR back to back in order to compare height; or (2) testify to the feel of a 6" FR in comparison to the SD?  Does it feel much higher on the leg?  Is the fit and comfort more or less the same?

Thanks!

on [more] eyelets, make sure you're not comparing plain toe with lace-to-toe.

6" is 6"__ don't get why 1 would be "higher" than the other.
however, SJs have higher profile due to the lug soles+heels.

.... & depending on your [build] selections, SJ/FRs are designed for a more rugged utility than SDs.

The Semi-dress is a 5" boot right?  Just wondering how much difference that extra inch makes to folks, either in looks or in feel...

I have both the SD 5" and a Bounty Hunter in 6". I can say that the extra inch makes a huge difference in the ability of the boot to fit on the foot. The SD grip is like a chukka boot, and the BH is like a hiking boot - it may have a lot to do with the cut of the boot or the lace design, but it does make a difference.

Pics of a couple of makeups that drew my attention while searching for ideas for a White's SJ order.

Smoke jumper in brown dress leather. Seems like this leather is nearly always used on the SD. Looks good on the SJ as well, no?

Smoke jumper with black and red dog bull hide. I'm not a huge fan of two-tone, and probably wouldn't go with this combo. But it's definitely eye catching.

that brown dress sj looks awesome! I`d probably copy unicorn`s red dog/(forgot the other leather) setup

Just curious, can anyone compare the differences in feel and foot support between White's and Viberg's?  Clearly both are a high quality of boot, but does Viberg offer good support?  Are they comfortable to stand and walk in?

At over $600 a pop, the Viberg service boot will do a number on your wallet for sure. But I confess that I love the look of those 1940/195 service boots with the sprung toe.  But I am curious how they feel.

Thanks.

A couple of q's.

Anyone have any pics of oiled red dog?

Have you ever seen a lace to toe smoke jumper with a non-celastic toe? Pics? Thoughts?

I`d suggest here the lack of support in the toe and the leather being softer around the toe box will be a bad balance to the strength of the lace to toe structure.

Thanks!

If its much like the bounty hunter, I can say that its does not feel much higher but tighter. That extra inch gives much more support than one can imagine.

just get them all blue suede!

Thanks for the pics. And how do you think that would work with lace-to-toe Mr. Unicorn?
