Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts? - Page 536

Hi all,

I'm interested in getting a pair of white's because I have a high instep. Can you recommend what last I should get if I have a high instep? Also what size should I get if I'm 7E brannock?

Thanks!

From my boots I get the impression that the Semi Dress last has significantly more room in the instep area than the Smokejumper last. Those two (and the Hathorn Smokejumper last where I don't know if and how it translates to a White's last – width is similar to the SD) are the only two lasts I have personal experience with.

Also, I would expect a lace-to-toe configuration to accommodate a high instep better than the standard toe. LTT is available with any last in the Smoke Jumper / Bounty Hunter models and it looks very cool IMO.

WRT sizing, there's no way to be 100% sure without having tried a few pairs. The Brannock device only measures length and width at the widest/longest points but does not take into account the relative length of your toes, the shape and volume of your feet, your arch length etc.

For me, White's Smokejumper last runs exactly true to my brannock size (13C) whereas the Semi-Dress last feels wider even one width down (13B). Like I explained a few posts further up, I prefer the Smokejumper toe shape which has a more natural fit on my feet.

As you can tell from this thread, sizing White's boots can be tricky. My advice would be to contact Kyle at Baker's Boots. He has much experience in recommending sizing for White's.

HI all, where everyone one at? I am really new to these boots but really are more into boots already broken in.  I hate breaking in new boots. Mine are all western style boots but these sound so awesome.  Just wondering if any one on here is in the Georgia area and wears a size 11 to 12.  From all the pictures that have been posted on here I really like the looks of them after they have been worn for a while....Chuck

Actually, the last used for the Packers feels like the highest arch White's uses. I have Packers, Bounty Hunters, and SmokeJumpers on the C461 last I believe. The Packers have the highest arch of any of them.

I'm in Nebraska, so not close at all haha! I will say that I really like western style boots too and also like boots that look more broken in.  New cowboy/western boots can look pretty strange sometimes.  Mine look like my feet are still in them when I have them off.

My White's Packer boots have a nice high arch, I love it.

And as for the uppers, the break in has been a bit of task but based off my experience with my brown smooth Classic Work Boots, once they are formed to my foot and ankle, they are as supple as you could ever want while still being tough as nails. Takes about a month or so of consistent wear to get there though.

I ended up going to Baker's a few days ago to get fitted. Still not very confident about the size I ordered though. They didn't have any semi-dress boots in store so Brandon had me try on smokejumpers instead. According to the chart he said I was between a C and a D width and my left foot was a 8.5 and my right foot was just under a 9. The 8.5D ended up fitting almost perfectly on my left foot. On my right foot, the 9D was definitely too long and the 9C was way too narrow along the middle part (instep?). I ended up settling for the 8.5D on the right foot too although the arch felt very weird on my right (felt perfect on my left). Fingers crossed that they fit when they arrive in a few weeks.

Hey Guys,

So I got a pair of semi dress from Amazon. Ended up getting them for about $275! Got them today, and out of the box they are pretty damn comfy- once they break in a bit, they'll be even better.

So I get that these a work boots, but the finish seems to a little rough. One of the toes has a slightly darker, almost burnished toe. However, it's not that big of a deal.

The think i'm wondering is the part under the arch suppose to have all this extra leather kind of sticking out? Maybe it won't look as crazy once they break in, but all of the pictures I've seen don't seem to have the extra. See the attached pictures. they don't seem to be trimmed very close.

There is a close trim option.  This one is of the wider variety and looks normal to me.

I think the close trim is the difference between 1 and 2 rows of stitching. Like I said, not a huge deal, but doesn't seem noticeable on other pairs.

The shelf near the arch is perfectly normal.. I actually like that as it protects the leather near the arch..

Yea, looks fine - most important they were comfortable to you....and for $275!
