Those are some very nice looking boots! It's good to see a pair that have some mileage on them.

that was one of the pairs of boots that convinced me to go with distressed smooth. nice to see how the leather looks now. very happy with my choice. that swing last is so much more round and roomy than even my EE size.

I just put $1,086 on my visa to 'try-on' some white boots.

If she finds out you can just say, "Be glad I didn't order three pairs of Vibergs.."

Just stopped by ABC Mart shoe shop in Ginza, now the owner of Whites. They have started to stock them in their flagship store. Prices range from 90,000-120,000Yen ($700-1000). I was so surprised of the quality drop since I last ordered my last Whites 3 years or so ago. Same leathers and soles, but sloppy cutting, stitching and finishing. It was not as if it was random too, just the overall finish was sloppy. I`m off to Hawaii tomorrow, and hope to buy some Whites made from a few years ago, from a stockiest in Waikiki. What a disappointment. ABC Mart though are known for cutting costs and making shoes in places like Cambodia (or Myanmar?) and Sri Lanka, and copies of well known brands too. Any comments on recent Whites quality? This forum seems to have had quite a few mishaps some time back, but this seems to be engrained in their batch in Japan now.

I have the William in Black, and I`d say its identical to the size in Whites in SD and BH. 9D for me.

Will composite toe get my feet cold when walk through snow?

I live in tropical, not so sure which boots to wear (composite toe SJ and shell cordovan dress boots) to Hokkaido winter trip.

I sure hope not!! I have been working with Kyle from Bakers for about 6 Months on a custom pair (an eternity) and up until yesterday, the only Whites boots I had any experience was the 2 try on pair of Whites bakers had sent out. They were Smoke Jumpers, so very heavy and solid. I just ordered a pair from Amazon (3 pair's in different sizes) and was surprised by how light, yet solid constructed they were. They did have some issue's I post later today, but my initial response of seeing 3 exact pairs of the same shoe next to each other was how similar they were for hand made boots. I also how I wished I had spent the money on a pair 20 years ago, as I would still be wearing them today instead of a junky pair of Justin Ropers that never fit right from the git go. Still looking forward to my  6'' Bounty hunters in distressed smooth leather.

They have always had some quality control issues it seems. I posted a few years back a comparison of White's and Viberg, and you could definitely see how the White's were a little off in the stitching, sloppy dying, proportions off, etc. But seems like has always been mostly aesthetic.  Not sure if anything has changed since the buyout...

Okay, calling all SD Brown Dress owners:  I am thinking of getting a pair, but am thinking about the various options -- Brass vs antique eyelets; all eyelets vs speedhooks; captoe vs no captoe; which sole to go with, lined vs unlined, etc.  I know there are pics posted all over the place, but it'd be nice to get them all here in one place, and to get updated pics from those of you who have posted in the past.

So, @meso , @bl@ster, @AT83, @b-ewing, and all you other guys with brown dress SDs, how about new pics?  And also, how about some feedback on what you especially like or don't like about your build? What would do the same, or different if you were ordering a pair now?

Thanks!

I have a Brown Dress SD pair in the pipe that should be ready in a few weeks - will post pics & impression once they arrive.

I went with all antique eyelets, swing last, no cap toe, close trim, standard heel dropped 1/4", composite half-sole, red leather lining.

broken_oracle,

When did you place your order? was it through Bakers, or Whites directly? I also have SD in the pipe and my order went to Whites Nov 4, 2015 and still waiting.

My old pair of SD in dress brown, all standard, lined.

my current pair - half sole, all eyes, lined, natural edge. Always kind of hated the half sole and when I resole I will go with something else
