Looks almost black when new, but that changes with brushing and the few times I had to use Lexol cleaner.   Haven't conditioned them yet though.

In terms of SD vs the BH, I like both. I think the SD looks just a bit more "refined" than the BH, But my brown dress BHs hold a shine well and look plenty classy. I wear them to work with chinos all the time.
Wow! Those look great! Do you have a side view of them?

Can anyone post a picture of the difference between smooth brown and classic brown?

I don't have pics but brown smooth (aka oil tan) is darker and much heavier; classic brown (same as English tan I believe) is actually smoother and thinner.

Similar to say a chestnut in Allen edmonds? How about some worn red dogs? Are they as red as some pictures make them out to be?

This is one of my favorite make ups.

I'm about to order my first pair, sorry for all the questions.

These are not particularly worn yet (only a few weeks old), but show the brown oiled and red dog oiled in natural light. The Red Dog is definitely red, but it looks great with the brown.

So I guses when you oil the red dog is when it becomes more red.

I'm really thinking of doing brown smooth with dress brown.I think that'd look really good.

Are these the same make up and if so what are the leathers?

Has anyone experience real disadvantage of close trim against standard trim?

Farmer-Rancher in brown smooth, cap toe Semi-Dress in British Tan aka Classic Brown. The difference is much larger in real life than on the pictures. The British Tan has a beautiful, silky shimmer and feels soft, smooth and luxurious. The brown oil-tan is thicker, tougher and rougher. The colour is not your typical brown, there's a distinct reddish or almost purple shade to it.

Ok, I said I'd get pictures of mine so here they are:

Black smooth a.k.a. black oil tan leather takes a beathing and cleans up well.  These boots were scrubbed hard and treated with Obenauf's oil on Tuesday.  They needed it.  As you can see from the side of the sole and the heel stack, they have been used hard, but the uppers are still going strong.  I have a pair of bullhide cowboy boots I rotate these with now, but as you can see they have taken the shape of my feet wonderfully.  I was measured for these and I couldn't be happier with the fit.  The laces come together close on the right boot because my right foot is lower in volume than my left at that spot.

These are work boots for me, and if I wanted something dressier I'd get the same model and measurements with leather soles.  Only problem would be picking a leather. So many nice choices.

Extremely satisfied with these.

These pics are a little darker, the actual boots are probably a shade lighter.  I realize I cleaned them up after that other pic - they may have been a little dusty, may have something to do with the color.

Overall I still see them lightening up toward my older pair I sold on eBay:

Swing SD's are still my favorite White's - they are more my style, plus they fit me great with the wider toe and narrower mid foot.  Standard SD's and BH's support is still better and I find myself wearing SD's when I need to be on my feet for extended periods, but day to day I always put on these Swing SD's.

Here's more in natural light

I think the reflection makes the leather look darker, but its always hard to tell from pictures how things will look IRL.  I hope this helps!

Much appreciated!  I really like the way these look.  I've got a wide left foot, and am thinking now about the Swing last for a future build, but I do really need the arch support too, so not sure...

My BHs are Red Dog uppers and brown bullhide lowers, so the color combo is similar to the boots you posted. I don't find the Red Dog overly red, but it is certainly more red than brown. The Red Dog and various browns is a great combo because the brown kind of tones down the Red Dog. Some other combos make the Red Dog look really red!
