Burgundy French Calf or Burgundy CXL for casual use? Any thoughts?
Both should be nice, flip a coin.

French calf but a bit fussier and thinner. But patina is the payoff

Hmm... I figured the cxl would patina better. Now you got me thinking French calf. Does it habe a little plastic look to it though? There's just too many choices with these boots. Lol

Definitely has more of a sheen, but to me that's a good thing. I absolutely love my brown dress SDs, if I was looking a burgundy casual boot (eg SDs) I'd go French calf. But that's just a personal preference.

Are your brown SDs French calf? Just curious.

No, but it's similar in that they're both dress leathers. The cxl that whites uses is absolutely great stuff, don't get me wrong. Pretty different in terms of look and how theyll wear though. Id say if you want a more casual look the cxl would be the way to go; if you want a bit more refined (i hesitate to say "dressy" but you know what i mean) look go French calf. Just google image search the **** out of both :D

Oh trust me ive read through this forum multiple times haha. I think since cxl gives off a more rugged look, I'm going to go with that! Another quick question .. I'be been wearing the 1000 mile boots which are 6". Is there a significant difference moving down to the 5" Sd?

Sounds like you got it squared away. If youre anything like me the fun is in the planning :)

As for the difference in height from 6" to 5"; there is definitely less ankle support, but I find my SDs to be much more comfortable to wear for that reason. More comfortable to wear sitting at my office desk ;)

Those rock man! Hows the Cuban heel? Actually how are the boots all together? Are they the most comfortable chunks of leather you ever put on your feet? Haha

So, Vern at Bakers sent me a couple pics of my boots.
Apparently they're not as obsessive about taking pics as I am.
Anyway, here they are, what does the hive say?

They look great! Very cool. Remind us what the build is...?

Also, how long since you ordered? I put my order in for black HH on January 31st, still no word.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, the build is:

-semi dress
-brown dress leather
-standard heel
-brass eyelets
-celastic toe
-toe cap
-standard trim sole
-swing last
-269 outsole

Also had them do a custom make-up because of feet that are slightly different sizes from each other and having a wider forefoot and narrow heel combo.
Having bought Vibergs in the interim that are built on the 2030 last and are a matched pair (that fit perfectly), the custom make-up seems like less of a masterful stroke on my part now...

I put the order in about 5 weeks ago, and will tell Vern to send them out today.
