Btw- whose got experience with the C461 last? I'm enamored with it at the moment :D

My SJs are on the C461 last. It does seem a little roomier in the toe area than the SD and Packer lasts. I don't think it is really wider than any other last, but it may be a bit taller in the toe. As for the turned up toe, I don't think it shows as much as in some photos. Then again, my SJs have a double midsole, so that may have flattened it out some.

Hello Andy,
I was out on the road so it's taken a few days to respond to all the posts.

The work boots on the other hand have been real snug all the way around.  Especially over the arch area and even more so in the upper shaft where they fit around the leg up above the ankle.  The leather on the left, outer part of the left boot has been VERY uncomfortable since it is constantly pressing on my leg right above the ankle.  The right boot is VERY tough to get my right foot into but once it's in there the boot fits fine.

Have you ever fractured your ankle? :D I would have assumed you'd have mentioned that, but I found it funny because many moons ago I fractured my left ankle and I have the exact problem you describe with some footwear. Thank goodness that problem has never manifested itself with any White's.

Ain't no shame in antique hardware. I actually prefer the way it ages; the laces will gracefully wear away the finishing to reveal a nice polished brass patina.

Here's a quiz. Is this polished brass or antique brass hardware?

It's polished brass. After a year, pretty much all brass will be antiqued except where something rubs on it to polish it. And it gets more "antiqued" all the time.

My two cents-
I'd do standard trim and heel, no pull loops, and no leather lining (the cxl is thick enough on its own IMO). Also would consider brass hardware. Makes a beautiful contrast to the burgundy.

These have me digging the standard trim...tough choices

Yup! And in a few weeks they'll be 4 years old. Definitely my favorite pair. I wear them several times a week except in the summer, and even then I can usually get a day a week out of them.

Yeah man, proper SDs. 700 outsoles, standard heel and trim, natural stain, British tan leather

I can see the appeal :) would likely still go #8 CXL as these are lighter leather, double stitch down and natural midsole

Guy, you're Viberging the White's thread. Love those boots, though. They look even better once they're broken in.

My 2 cents:
Definitely celastic toe.
Yes to pull tab, block heel , and lowered.
Single row or double stitching either way.
No speed hooks (its a short boot).
I would def get CXL lined, to prevent stretching; Kyle at Bakers recommends it, and I experienced it with my OSB CXL boots.

All,

I am working on a semi-dress makeup and would love some opinions on any possible changes:

  • #8 CXL leather
  • no toe cap
  • single celastic toe
  • leather liner (black or cream)
  • pull tab (undecided)
  • antique eyelet and speed hook combo
  • close trim
  • block heel (possibly minus 1/4")
  • Commando mini lug half sole
  • single midsole
  • brown edge trim (possibly natural but probably not)

Thanks for the assistance as this would be my first White's makeup

No break in needed on cxl compared to black smooth which is hard as wood:)

Quote: No,never hurt an ankle. I do, however, have a problem with gout right now with the right foot which is why I think it's so much harder to get into the right boot. My right foot is bigger than the left one right now. Probably not a good time to be breaking in new, expensive MTO boots that mold to your feet but if I have problems down the road I'll deal with it then. The work boots are starting to feel better every day although still tighter all the way around than the SJ's. The SJ's are just slightly loose in the heel with medium weight socks. I bought some heavyweights today and the SJ's are perfect with them which is no big deal since the SJ's will be worn mostly in the winter.
