I got my BHs in a couple of weeks ago so I had some questions/comments. First the comments, love the boots, well made as were the pair of SJs I purchased in 1998. I had an interesting conversation with White's concerning the color. I ordered them in British Tan but changed to Classic Brown as I was concerned the former would be too orange. After I got them I was convinced they had actually been made in BT after comparing them to BT swatch I had (see pic). I called White's to get the final word. Turns out according to White's, British Tan and Classic Brown are the same color! The name just depends on what boot they are in. Who knew?

Next the question. I am concerned they are too big, They feel good in some spots but generally feel a little squishy in the heel. When I bought my SJs back in 1998, I sent foot tracings to White's and was sized at 10.5 EE. That is what I ordered these in. You can see from the photo how much room is between my big to and the end of the boot. I was expecting them to be more snug as I remember my SJs being. Am I remembering incorrectly? If they should be more snug is there anything that can be done about it? Thanks.

Judging by your thumb width, I'd say the length is about right, but having the same issues I can feel your pain. (See my post a page or two back). If the width feels just right I'd probably keep em. Btw- looking forward to seeing some evo pics of your soft toe ;)

As for the color; that's gotta be wrong, right? No way those are the same color, are they???

my personal experience is that you need to size down 1/2 from SJ to SD.
hence, SJ 8.5E = SD 8E
learned that the hard way, too ... 'had to sell my MTO SD HH x Bison as the consequence.

I must have done something wrong, no pics. Trying again...
That color looks great! I think once they get some wear and dark creases it will look even better!! The SJ last is supposed to be fuller than the rest, so if anything I would have expected the BHs to be tighter. Like B-Ewing said, if the width feels good, and the arch feels in the right spot, they are probably a good fit. Andy B.

Wondering who you got to rebuild them for you... I may want to have some rebuilding done on a pair. Thanks.

I've had them for about 3 years. They've been rebuilt twice though due to sizing issues. so the vamp area is only about a year old. the uppers are 3.

unlined semi dress last - but the last is modified on the right foot for a larger toe box.

I posted this in the Danner thread, but there's probably a greater chance of it being answered here.

My brown dress SD's finally made it out of the office. I wore them the majority of the time this past weekend in northern Michigan.

I own a pair of SDs in British Tan. I have a swatch of the Classic Brown. To me they are one in the same. That was my initial reaction when I got the swatch. Now it's been confirmed. Thanks for sharing that research.

Thanks for your comments all. The whole classic brown/british tan thing is a bit odd. You'd think they would just stick to one to avoid confusion. I fretted over which to pick for a week!

That's pretty funny, you are dealing with the same thing! I probably looked at 80 pages of this thread but missed that one. When you say you shelved your BHs for now does that mean they are still eligible for return? I have worn mine outside so I am guessing they are not.

I have learned my lesson on buying clothing ordered online (often bespoke or MTO). Have too often (more than i care to admit :)) purchased stuff, convinced myself that the fit was good; only to a week or so later decide that it was bad, then left to sell the item at a loss (both time and money). Frustrating as hell but on the other hand it's comes with the territory of an online environment.

Baker's has an excellent "Guarenteed Fit" program, and I paid careful attention when I got my boots not to step foot outside with them on. I followed the Mac Method, basically meaning wearing them for a couple hours indoors (eg carpeted), for a few times. Wearing at both the beginning and end of the day to account for swelling. In the end, and with Brandon and fellow SFers on this thread help (thx again for the input guys) I concluded I needed to size down. Hopefully the 9.5Ds will work out- I may regret not going with an E width- but I'm confident the length will be much better.
