Thanks for the interest guys. I have been interested in the Nomad since it first came out, but at first it was only available in the smooth leathers and Whites was not allowing much customization. I was after more of a 40s look and couldn't get what I wanted.

But then Bakers got Whites making them in CXL. That was a step in the right direction. Then I started seeing some pics of customizations popping up around the web. So I called up Kyle with my requests.

All black CXL. I love how it isn't dyed through and you get the contrast along the seams.
Soft toe. This is a former no-no.
Close trim. Kyle said he'd never seen it done but was sure Whites would do it.
Double mid sole
1/4" heel lift
Vibram 700 half sole. The half sole plus the lift result in a heel comparable to a SJ with a full 100 sole.

So there you have it. I can't wait to break these in!

Sounds like a winner.

What a fine choice! Are you the same size in those as your SD's?
Perfect build for engineers; now, if only they'd mod on instep strap length, roller buckles and shaft height.

EDIT- none of that was meant to be any kind of dig on your very fine pair btw. The black cxl is a perfect leather with its aniline finish (r/t pigment dye)- read, will age and patina perfectly

I have SJ and SD in a 9FF. The widest size for the Nomad is an F. I would say the Nomad fits the same as a SJ. Because of the lack of laces and the "stretchiness" of CXL I am good with the F width.

No dig taken biggrin.gif

You are right about those details. Fortunately they don't matter much to me. But that's just me.

I'm not that sure since I asked them to give them a whole once-over and close inspection, but what I could see from the pictures they sent me was that the inner welt stitching looked exposed around the toecaps, which seemed kind of a big deal. Other than that they look awesome though.

Exdeath - are those a lowered heel?

Standard. Lowered would look really, really wonky.

Nice to have Bakers running interference. Whites themselves seem hit or miss.. Anyway, these will be killer boots when you get them!

Looks great Exdeath. Wear them in good health. Are they the C461 turn up last or work boot ?
Neither actually. They're horsehide SDs so they're on the normal Semi-Dress last.

If these go nicely I can see a pair of Distressed Smooth Bounty Hunters in the near future.

You would not be disappointed.  That exact makeup is my favorite pair of boots that I own, and while it's not a very dressy leather, it's by far the most impressive leather that I've ever had on a boot.  You can beat it to absolute hell, and with a quick brushing, it's back to looking like new.  Mind bogglingly nice.
