I'm already building my second pair on boot design any ideas from you professionals out there. I'm a rookie need all the help I can get.

50 cent

I agree with Baker's. I tried putting inserts in twice (the Packers and the BHs). Both times within about 5 minutes I had the inserts ripped out. Between the arch in the White's, and the extra arch material in most inserts, your foot will not be happy with an insert. White's are designed to fit tight in the arch area and there isn't enough room for what would effectively be a double arch with insoles inserted.

Also, inserts really should only affect the width of the shoe since they add material under the footbed, not to the length. I can understand why you would need to go a 1/2 size longer in most footwear that doesn't have the width options as White's, but if you truly needed an insert, I would go up a size in width in White's before going longer.

Andy B.

My pleasure. It's exactly what I wanted it to be. Tough as nails and shows character/patina. It's a great leather.

Yes it is distressed smooth. Personally I am not terribly concerned about which looks better. These are work boots for me. I want them treated so they will hold up to whatever I dish at them.

It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with the pair of Vibergs, unless I'm missing something.

Differences between Viberg and White's:

Viberg is significantly more expensive, does not do custom orders or makeups, and has much slimmer lasts. Some say better construction, but I can't confirm that.

White's is probably the best value for boots in the U.S. However, they are workboots, and will never look dressy.

One thing to keep in mind is that while Obenauf's will darken light leather initially, it will lighten most of the way back to the original color after a few weeks.

I was wondering if that might be the case.

Viberg does custom group orders/makeups.

That's different from a custom order, but yes, you are right
