Anyone hear heard about”Lexol NF Neatsfoot Leather Dressing” It says: “Lexol NF is specially designed for today's vegetable and chrome tanned leathers”

Is it any good? Would Obenaufs be better? If so which Obenaufs leather product should I get?

Thanks guys[

Horween swears by Venitian Cream for CXL. I used it on my navy OSBs I had for about 2 yrs. kept em looking mighty spiffy

Allan,

That was EXACTLY my reason for talking to Baker's and White's about a lighter color leather. The black and smooth brown are so dark that they don't really develop a patina of any sort. Your reasons for liking the distressed are exactly why I know I will end up with a pair in that leather sooner than later. The only question is will I end up with a pair in HH before the distressed. biggrin.gif

Well, I was quite surprised when i got home from work last night! I was anticipating having to wait at least 2 more weeks; based on others order/lead times. But, here they are. I was fairly worried about "how much" toe kick there would be and others posting on this site about clown shoes. I am very satisfied with the look and the comfort of the "rock when you walk" to these boots. I made the right decision (for me).

461 last "classic work boot"

all oil tanned brown leather

brown edge

antique eyes and hooks

single mid-sole

100 vibram lug sole

double celastic toe

standard toe cap

standard curve heel -1/4"

8" w/pull loop

kilty/tongue guard installed

I have included some photos of my 15+ yr old cowboy packers in the same leather for comparison.

See lots of people going to Baker's. Anyone try to use White's directly? I noticed there are no prices on the site for the SD but there appear to be many more leather/color options but fewer eyelet, tongue, midsole, etc.... options.

Any experience getting the same kind of customization via Whites?

Whites or Bakers, it's the same thing with same options. I've done both, awesome service for both. No real benefit either way in my experience, but Bakers is nice for building/ordering online. To go direct with Whites you'll want to call.

Hi guys,

Just for comparison. Anybody have a link to what boots in Brown Smooth and Brown Oil Tan leather look like. I wanted to compare and see which is closest to Brown Chromexcel. I looked on rakuten, but they just say Brown not sure what type.

THanks,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, Whites has fewer options out in the open and first timer orders need to send in foot tracings, measurements too. Thanks again!  Will try out Baker's let you know how it turns out.

Scott,

Your new boots look great, and so do those Packers! Looks like you have an extra layer or two on the surface of the Packers. Bet they would clean up really well. I'd like to see pictures of the cleaned and oiled Packers next to the new Classic Work Boots to make that comparison. How do the boots feel on your feet when comparing 15 year old, well-worn boots to the brand new ones? I am still in the process of breaking in my SDs. They feel better and more conforming to my feet with every wearing.

THanks,

I don't have any side-by-side photos, and I don't own anything in Brown Oil Tan, but my SJs are Brown Smooth and black roughout, and unless you're in bright light, the Brown Smooth is very dark, almost black. There are a few pics of my SJs back a few pages in this thread. In fact, when I received them I thought there was a mistake and they were built in all black leather. I think if you had a pair of boots in all Brown Smooth that most people would think they were black. Most of the online photos I see don't make the Brown Smooth look that dark because they have a lot of lighting.

Granted, leather color can vary a bit from lot to lot.

Allan,

Thanks!

I'll clean up those packers and send a photo.

As far as fit and comfort compared to the well worn boot.

I am 1,000% satisfied with my choice! The 461 last with more toe box room and -1/4" in the heel is exactly what I personally was looking for and needed.

I went a little overboard on day one break-in; I wore them for 14 hours, and luckily about 6 of those hours were sitting, or I would have been very sorry.

After an evening of recovery I wore them again the next day on a 300 mile 12 hour motorcycle ride/day. We are now one! The cowboy packers will probably be permanently retired.
