Not sure if your high instep question was resolved. I had same question about high instep and wanted to try a pair one before deciding if they were right for me. Well, I found that the Graham Fowler store in New York City sold the White's Semi Dress. I tried it on and the arch support is great. I bought the standard 9.5 size in medium width D. I've had the boots for about a month I love them.

I followed your advice and treated my new White's semi dress boots with Whites Leather Preservative before stepping out of the house. White's leather preservative is advertised as being Obenauf's. There is great joy seeing rain just bead on my boots and not sink in. I have now used the leather preservatie on an old leather jacke, old Wolverine boots and a back up pair of dress shoes. Awesome stuff and awesome advice. Thanks!

I placed my order with Baker's 1/15/2013 and received my boots 03/5/2013.

7 weeks was not tough to wait considering I was building my race bike at the same time.

^ Great use of natural CXL. RE: your question about boot care, it depends on how you'll use them. CXL is a pull up leather and is stuffed with a lot of wax and oil during the tanning process. They really don't *need* anything right out of the box unless you plan to wear them in wet and/or very austere environments. If so, Obenauf HDLP will both condition and protect but will darken the leather slightly. Their boot oil will darken even more. I went with HDLP on my natural CXL boots (OSB Trench) and I like how they turned out. I didn't want them to darken significantly right away due to oils and conditioner.

The regimen you suggested certainly won't hurt any but it may not be all that necessary (unless you work or wear them outdoors in the wet every day).

I think many of us (myself included) enjoy the process of shoe care, applying cnditioners and oil. That said, many of us (myself included) wear these boots in environments that don't necessarily *require* the amount of care that we like to conduct. I say this because there are so many recommendations (like on the Wolverine 1K thread) that involve snoseal, HDLP and oil applications before ever leaving the house. There is often no consideration of how the boots will be used. A guy in LA who works in an office for instance, really doesn't need a coat of Obenauf LP and boot oil right out of the box.

These are just my opinions of course so if they don't apply to your particular application, feel free to disregard.

Thanks for the reply. I live in San Diego and work a wearhouse job. A job I could pull off in running shoes, but I commute by bicycle only. I have to and live to ride ever single day rain or shine. Obviously I could throw on some shit shoes when it rains, but why when I can wear my boots.
I have had great luck with sno seal and my wolverine 1,000 mile boots over the year. I planned the route of obenaufs lp and hdlp but had sno seal and decided to go that route. Sno sealed my whites, I wore the out of the box at work for a few hours, brushed them and sno sealed them.
Color is darkened a bit but it is also very cold in the garage.

you could have gone away with the snow seal. just put some pecards ont he welt and your good to go. cxl leather are really oily and doesnt need that extra coat to water proof it

Can anyone give some direct testimony as to sizing for Viberg 310 Last Service Boots?  I am a 10D in Alden Tru-balance, and probably the same in White's.  I am getting different feedback on UK vs US sizing, and just wonder if anyone can speak from experience on the Service Boots.

 

(I know this is the White's forum, but I also know some guys have both brands, so thought I'd check here...)

I have had nothing but great luck using sno seal on other cxl boots so I stuck with the routine and sealed these up first day. Good thing too because its raining today.

After a very generous coat of sno seal and a day of walking.

I also threw some leather laces on.
