Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts? - Page 74

The Arch Ease in both styles are good for high arches, it's the flat foots that struggle with it to begin with!

i suggest a re-measure and send your findings to Whites.  I had to have my Oxfords brought down to a C in the heel area because they were too loose as a D. (I have a 10 D in a bounty hunter that fits fine)  Because they are a shoe, the heel fit is different.  In my experience at least.

I thought the swing last was wider, but not more instep volume?  My foot really isn't wide, and when I do get wide shoes to account for instep volume my ankle usually ends up slipping a lot.

I didn't realize that the SD's had arch support.  That's good for my arches, but does it cut down on instep volume?  I thought that the SD was pretty low profile.  I just don't want to get expensive boots that are custom and not returnable if they're uncomfortable.

I wish there was someplace that had some to try on.  There aren't any big box shoe stores that carry the non-customized versions, are there?

Thanks for the advice. The issue I have with Whites though is that they recommended a 10D at first, and after floating around in my boots, I had to place them for sale and now wear a comfortable 9D. But I guess I can mention that in my claim though. I hate it when they err on the large size just to avoid returns - its easier to say `wear thicker socks` than have to replace a tight boot. But as we know with Whites, unless they fit perfectly, they can move from the best boot to the worst boot pretty quickly!

yea, I was sized at a 10 D but after going back and forth, Im actually a C in the heel area.  I can get away with a D in my boots because I can lace them a bit snugger and its totally fine.  With the oxfords I was swimming in the heel.  I even suspect I could go C in the ball area, but whatever.  Its a hard game to perfect.

You can get a C width heel and a D width upper/ball area. White's will do this if you ask, they are two separate pieces.

I dont think they will do this willingly on their Hathorne line though.  I had to get a C heel clamp put in.  They wouldnt just resize it to a C.

Is Farmer-ranger toebox and profile sleeker than SD?

Idk about Hathorne, but I did this for my semi-dress.

All right, getting ready for an order here, and am trying to decide on Semi-Dress Last or 461 (sprung toe) Last, probably for a 6" Smokejumper, but maybe for a Semi-dress.  I have seen plenty of pictures of the 461 Last, but wouldn't mind some testimony from those that have them or have seen them in person.  how do they feel?  And just how "sprung" is that toe in real life?  is it enough to make it seem "cowboy boot-sh", which I don't want; or just enough to seem classic work boot-ish, which I do?

Any feedback is welcome as I figure it out...

Thanks!

The Farmer-Rancher is literally the Semi Dress last on the Smoke Jumper styling. I have them in stock and there is barely any difference between the SD and FR last.

Alright, I'm going to post the short version again.

Smoke Jumper: Standard last, lug sole

Farmer-Rancher: Standard last, composition or mini lug sole

Bounty Hunter: Either of the above on the semi-dress last

There are other last choices (38, swing) for Smoke Jumpers, Farmer-Ranchers, and even the Semi-Dress, but take the above as the basic guide to terminology if another last is not specifically mentioned.

What do you think of the improvement with the natural leather laces to match the sole?
