Homemade Jam

Anyone here make their own jams? I've been experimenting a little this winter with pretty good results. Working on a batch of Buddha's Hand jam now, I'll see in a few hours what I got.

My parents make strawberry freezer jam, which is awesome. It's not cooked - you just mash up some strawberries with sugar and a bit of pectin and then freeze it until you want it. Since the strawberries are uncooked, it all tastes fresh, which is welcome in the middle of the winter.

I do the same. Great fresh taste and you get a great yield as the fruit isn't cooked down. I make strawberry, peach, and sour cherry jam.

I made some jam last year from fruit that I got at the farmer's market. I made several pints of strawberry, which was amazingly good. It also didn't last until winter like I had hoped. I just used the recipe from the pectin package.

Lesson: make way more than you think you will go through.

tried making an apple jam recently and failed, but I'm gonna try again with better recipes next time. Citrus season is coming on here strong and yuzus and tangerines will be cheap, like huge boxes for five bucks.

The one I am making now is pectin free. Its only my second time doing that, hope it works better that the first time...

let us know how that buddha's hand works out. could be a marmalade? the fruit itself is almost all pith and peel, not much fruit.

I'm from a very rural area, and everyone and their dog makes homemade jams. I myself have never been great, but I do love them. A lot of very interesting flavours, and always better than store bought stuff.

My mom makes strawberry jam quite often. She's also made raspberry and some other flavors depending on the fruit she has. Freaking awesome. I never eat store bought jam/jelly now.

Yes, its technically a marmalade I guess. It actually turned out very well. Its tastes very similar to a Meyer lemon marmalade I made a couple years ago. Sweeter than most orange marmalades with a strong lemon backbone.

I made some decent, but not great blueberry jam last week. Looking for something to try this weekend.

LOL. I figured that much. I was wondering about the pectin mostly as the sugar will depend on the sweetness of the strawberries I find.
