Canada
Mexico
Brazil
China
Hong Kong
France
Italy
St. Thomas & St. John, USVI (are US territories separate from the US? I say yes)
St. Kitts/Nevis

Is Monaco separate from France? If so, then 10.

I've also been to numerous other Caribbean Islands (some several times) but am not including them on this list because I was only there off a "lame cruise ship". I've been to St. Martin about 5 times I think, but only as a cruise ship destination.

The main idea is that, I don't exclude all business trips, and I don't include all vacation trips (lame cruise for example).

In that case I would add the following to my list:

St. Martin
St. Lucia
Honduras
Cayman Islands
Puerto Rico
Bahamas
Barbados
Jamaica

So 18, which means my vote of 5-8 was WAY off.

I count Luxembourg abd Liechtenstein even though I wasn't there for days, as I did stay in the region for a few days, and spent considerable time in the two capitals.

Where about in Heaven were you, boyo?

Different government, different laws, free internet, human rights, need a passport going there, different visa regulations, yeah everyone should consider it a separate country.

oooo even with the weird criteria i still stand at 16. Very exciting!
I am a big traveller though and always try and go somewhere new at least every couple of years. I tend to save, save, save for months on end and then go travelling somewhere for a few weeks. The most recent place on the list was Italy which was great fun. Went to Milan for a few days to visit a friend who has moved out there and then took the train down to Rome to do a bit of sightseeing as I couldn't leave without having been there. The Colosseum was awesome! The Basilica of San Giovanni is also a good photographic opportunity - definitely worth a look!

Either way, its a wicked city and I would whole-heartedly recommend it. Try and stay in an apartment in the centre of Rome so you can get to most places on foot. As public transport I found to be quite tricky without good knowledge of the language.
To be fair I'm not really that great at tubes/buses etc in England so I have no hope when abroad!
