Bought some R.M. Williams in Yearling leather, do I need to waterproof them before I wear them out in the snow?

Assuming you bought one of the wholecut boots, you'll get leakage at the welt or in the elastic bands. The leather itself will be fine. This is my experience w. the Comfort Turnouts in brown yearling.

If you want the leather to be waterproof, yes . Otherwise, no!

What exactly does waterproofing do? Does it prevent the leather from being damaged or is it for some other purpose?
