The Cape - Page 2

I just can't get into the whole silliness. As someone said, it's Silver Age comics brought to the screen, campiness, over-the-top roles and all. But I'm not sure if that's deliberate or not.... it may just be horribly bad writing.

I think I'm a victim of the 90's-00's comic book "grittyness". I'm sure a lot of people hate it, but I grew up on it, and it's what I like. Superheroes are inherently silly, so a deliberate effort to stamp this out of it (serious plot lines, stuff you cannot laugh at) goes a long way.

I'll give next week a try, it feels like a large part of the ridiculousness came through the writers wanting to get the "origin" story out of the way. They just rush through everything in a ham fisted way, but if it gets too a decent plot at a later date....

Is this like Heroes 2.0 or something? Is Vince Faraday related to Daniel?

Parts of it made me feel like I was watching "The Flash" series from the 90s while other parts made it feel like those bizarre "Viper" and "Night Man" TV series.

Holy shit! You just gave me flashbacks to TV shows I'd completely forgotten I'd seen. Yes, think "Viper", "Night Man", "M.A.N.T.I.S." and any other mediocre superhero show that appeared on FOX/WB/Sci-Fi and that's pretty close to what "The Cape" is, only with slightly higher production values (i.e., they shoot one scene with a Mercedes SLR, whereas in one of the former series they'd use a Chrysler Prowler).

I used to really like The Flash. The others were good when you were really drunk since they usually aired at 2am or something.

I was 9 or 10 when The Flash was on, and like 13 when M.A.N.T.I.S. and Viper were on. They were on at regular hours. Maybe you caught re-runs or something. I also used to watch Acapulco H.E.A.T. around the same time.

I was a fan of Natalie Raitano on that show.

I know The Flash and MANTIS were on at regular hours since they were both backed by the networks. The other shows, I think, we're syndicated, so they were on at different times depending on the station that bought it. VIP, Viper, and Night Man were definitely on at odd hours in my market.
