Yeah, I know. OP said he wanted to buy grenadine and knit ties... Everything that needs to be said about grenadine ties has already been said ("Sam Hober"). That's my weigh-in on knit ties.

I got two very nice grenadines from Charles Tyrwhitt for about $60 but they only do two colours - silver gray and electric blue.

I also got a nice deep red off eBay for about $45.

Then I read about Hober on here and discovered the mother lode. Haven't pulled the trigger yet but definitely will do soon.

I love the feel of my grenadines from Hober. As an FYI re: knits. J. Crew and RLBL are identical. IDENTICAL. And one is half the price, guess which one.

Agreed. I recently bought two of those very ties. They're good staples, and they're certainly a bargain at the sale price. (Sorry, bb.)

And let me also join in with all the respondents who recommended Hober and Wang for grenadines. I own some from each maker and am delighted with all of them.

I've been very happy with my Hober grenadine ties. As an added bonus, they seem more durable than my other grenadines, i.e., less likely to snag or pull on my occasionally rough and dry fingers. Grenadine is a high-maintenance weave, but the Hobers require less babying than others I've owned.

I have not bought one from Hober or Kent Wang yet, but I am going to be getting one from Hober and a knit point end from Kent for something slightly different.

I do have two grenadine ties from JPress, I was in NYC and I was on a grenadine mission so to speak. I ended up narrowing it down to Paul Stuart, CT, and JPress. Everyone loves Paul Stuart for everything around here, but their grenadine ties were not that impressive to me for whatever reason, and they were priced high. JPress had similar looking weave and was much cheaper as well, not to mention PS didn't have black or navy in the store. I ended up with JPress, and the sales guy in the store was much better to speak with than the guy at PS (who may or may not be an SF member). I liked the CT's and their weave is similar to Hober, but they didn't have the blue, just the silver and at the time it was something like buy one get one free or 1/2 off and I wasn't going to pay full price and not get both colors in my hands that day.

I have a host of knits; one from JCrew in black, and to back up the other poster, it feels just like the ones I saw in the RL sections of stores in NYC and The Mansion, thin and crunchy. I also have 3 from Brooks, all are retail store models that were found at the factory store for $45.00 with 40% off. One is lavender, one is pale green and one is navy with light blue checks/dots (the most interesting looking of the 3). They are all less crunchy than the JCrew and slightly wider, very well made and soft/smooth. I think they are 2.78 or so to JCrew being about 2.25ish. I have black knit from JPress as well, it is wider, about 3 inches and appears less skinny or trendy it is very noticeable as well compared to other thin/skinny knits, I tend to wear this more with a full on, all business, charcoal suit from the Vanguard line of Hickey Freeman as the lapels are not skinny, that suit overpowers a skinny tie and makes it look way off.

I would look at Hober, CT, and JPress for the grenadine depending on the colors and weaves desired. I would get 2 or 3 if I were you, black and/or navy, and burgundy.

Knits, depends on the width and the texture you want but like others said most are made in the same places so if you can find two that are the same get a cheaper brand and save money.

Curious, how or why Hober ties would be more durable if the grenadine is from the italian factory that most other grenadines are sourced from?

+1,I got two yesterday and they are very nice. Like them more than silk knit ties, more refined.

I know nothing about making a tie but I would guess it would depend on how they are made.

I think there must be just a handful of factories in Italy that do most of them so most will have the same quality. But, I feel there are exceptions. I also think Charvet, although they are priced at an absolutely crazy level now, has some very unique colors that could really make an outfit. I would pay the premium for "the perfect color" but would take any brand.

Jah, I agree. I don't mean to suggest that all the knits are interchangeable in feel and design, just that I can't tell much difference in the quality and durability of most of 'em. The aesthetics may vary, but I've yet to get burned by a "bad" knit. If I wanted a knit in solid hunter green, for example, I wouldn't hesitate to buy Lands' End's version.

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone tried those. Seems like a reasonable price if they are decent enough.

I was in BB yesterday and didn't see these. Since they're wool, these probably don't have the "crunch" of silk knits, right? I sort of like the crunchyness. They look nice though. I need to stop by again and see if they have them.
I did, however, pick up two crunchy silk knits at Saks on sale for $38 each.

Correct. I'd say they're more springy than crunchy.

My Les Copains knits are excellent: crunchy and open weave. On par with Drakes. They may well come from the same silk mill near Como.

You don't mind the 2.5" width?
