thoughts on the hiking boot trend? I felt this was jumping the shark on the americana/hipster-with-a-fancy-axe thing but feit's ox blood version impressed

These Feits look Ronald McDonald'esque, but the trekking boot thing is gonna go hard for awhile. It might be recent in this new menswear vernacular but they've been part of the Japanese Amekaji (the roots of everything that is #menswear nowadays) for years. See Danner Mountain Light, see Paraboot, etc, etc. It's a classic shape that's now in the fold. They will probably go really mainstream soon if you don't consider them mainstream already, don't bros in America wear Red Wings now? These are their next shoes, once you're done with them in a few years.

the red is overkill but the delivery is nice, i think these are from a year or more ago when it seemed to be breaking into the states/blogrolls. I've seen more and more of the danners etc that make me understand the appeal. Red Wings are big, vibram sole getting put aside for the more classic 1k mile/GT silhouette. just my take on the trend.

Anything with see-through soles is destined for Goodwill at one point or another. Those feit's are pandering to the former sneakerheads and are ugly. I do think, however, there are other examples of expensive "trekking" boots that have some longevity. A well-made pair of brown leather boots are never going to fall that far out of style (or perhaps I'm a sucker).

I think you're spot on there. Trekking boots, like many of these trends that are popping up lately, are fun at best, and at worst they're just good wardrobe staples that will go in the closet to rest.... and shudder to think, but someday one might actually go hiking and remember they have an awesome pair of hiking boots, and the realization will begin. Right now we're just stocking up... with inventory....

I know this is probably too early to be even asking, but if you finally decide on what kind of footwear you want to put out, how long from then before we can purchase? Also based on how interested you seemed in the Dayton thread, do you plan on designing something along those lines?

Some people are stocking up, indeed. Me? I'm just waiting to be cast in the next Indiana Jones movie set in Tokyo and the Himalayas.

It could be awhile, I am not sure how fast they work. I have time, you have time, we all time. We're making babies non-sexually here... so we want to make sure they come out looking right, right? :slayer:

I would take a look at the Carpe Diem 5-Hole boot and go from there. My $0.02 for what I think will work very well with the TOJ aesthetic.

I'm working on either being/writing the next little cluster of Murakamis for a generation younger... I think I'm already at South of the Border, West of the Sun. If I drop this Mild Seven and decide to pick up marathon'ing suddenly, the transformation will be more or less complete. The women have all disappeared and reappeared, for sure.

Good luck with shoes. It is a different ballgame than jackets.

+1. You going to start doing round the world shipping for returns? Feet are way different than shoulders.
