Middle-class people would benefit from taking yrs off, buying less large tvs, minivans and campers for their retirement and take some 3-6 or 12 month traveling trips. Of course if you have kids you have to ditch them somewhere first but I think there's been a recent case where it worked out allright for the mother.

I just paid $1200 for coach round-trip from Seoul to LA this year. Added more to get a biz upgrade. That makes the All-Asia pass seem really cheap if you're like Dmash and set on HK, but want to see Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, and Bangkok. You get a bit of everything and 3 weeks is enough for those 5 cities if you sacrifice time in Tokyo for the rest, and just do a few days of Japan. The way the yen is (103 yen to a Euro right now) - staying in Japan just a few days is probably the smartest thing.

Right now I can book China Eastern from NYC-Hong Kong, with just 1 stop in Shangai for $873 round trip, all taxes included. So it's either that, + a $250 ticket round trip from HK-Bangkok and just do those 2 cities, along with hitting up Macau of course. So that would only put me about $1100 all in with airfare. and I mean, if I wanted to do another city like Seoul, I can find flights out of HK for like $300 round trip fairly easy. So that would put me at about $1400, for sure.

These things about the All-Asia pass I'm not sure about:

1. A $100 charge if you depart/arrive on Thurs-Sun
2. It states this "Foreign airport departure taxes that must be paid at departure airports are excluded from this price". Not sure how much that might accumulate too.
3. Says you have to book through a travel agent, which I know none.
4. For $1880 you only get to go to HK and 2 other cities, 4 other cities makes the price $2582.

^When you start taking all that into consideration I think it may be better to book it all yourself. Also, I can book through things like StudentUniverse.com and I've found some pretty awesome deals on there that just pop up every now and then, with like a 24 hour window to book. I've got all the way until Summer '12 to figure everything out though, just weighing options and getting everything put together as of now though.

Has anybody been to Bangkok? Both buddies are pushing for it pretty hard as they've heard it's cheap and the parties are fairly decent........

So in a few minutes I'll go back and do a cover coat on the wall, hit the sack, and then I think I will try to clear emails again tmorrow. Been very busy this week, apologies dudes. I will have pocket wi-fi in Japan on Thursday on too, so I can do emails from anywhere, no interruption. I'm just busy as of a couple days ago til Thursday afternoon, so excuse my slow email responses. Limited quantity stuff will be first come first served in the order I got your emails, i.e. the last of the whisky leather, the red leather, etc.

While I was growing up, I'm so appreciative that my parents took my brother and I on family vacations all over every year instead of worrying about a huge house, or the newest car, etc.

My dad never went for any of that shit, we never took family vacations because we fought too much (and my dad's taste is way too white, he took us to Memphis once) - but it's so hard to get him to buy fucking cars and houses. Dude can afford that shit but he is the cheapest mf'er around. To his credit, when he buys shit, he does buy good stuff, he's like his father, and I'm like my father, but I'm not as cheap or miserly as them. I'm into jawnz.

Kind of pisses me off though, my dad paid for my sister's wedding this summer, I am gonna get married next summer; meanwhile, my sister and her husband moved back home into my parents house and are just slummin (my brother in law has a damn master's degree ffs) and they're settled in - they just got married not 2 months ago too. What gets me is that my mom was like 'sure, I'll pay for everybody to fly out to Tokyo for your wedding' - except I'm already in Tokyo and paid quite the princely sum to do so, and my bum sister and her husband get a free Japan vacation out of it - ffffuuuu.gif Hearing that was like hearing the sound of a rusty wallet opening for the first time. I sure as hell never got free trips to Japan, I had to pay for that shit or hustle for it at least. I went to Europe, Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong several times each after high school, paid for all that myself in some way or another. I need to talk to a psychologist or something, the jawnz are making me paranoid as fuck and breaking up my family.

I also just came to a realization right now, right after I wrote that - I never understood why we fought so much as a family, but now it hit me - it's me, times 4 - ffffuuuu.gif the most intense scrutinization and exacting philosophy one family could ever have, with a nice mean streak to spice things up a bit. ffffuuuu.gif

Who cares what they do with their money unless they die and leave you with debt that becomes your problem?

The problem with money is that it is so sweet when you're dumb, and later on, you get over it. It's almost as bad as love.

Dude, I'm 3 months from being 30; I've moved my place of living (whether down the street or across the world) 27 times. I'm pretty good at it now, but I get so busy lately, I have 3 huge trash bags to throw out right now and I'm done with this place for good. Got 6 hrs.
