Hi, you also didn't read very thoroughly.

Anyone have experience with altering leathers in the shoulder? If no one bites on my DR, I'm going to bring it to a leather specialist here in SF. Slim sleeves, take in shoulders, slim body. Not sure if I want to reduce the armhole, as that appears to shorten the jacket as well.

I'm just worried about spending a lot to alter it and having them screw it up somehow.

its not going to be cheap...i have had the body slimmed a few times, also the sleeves, these are easy, shoulders a little more difficult

decent idea, but wouldn't work, in theory or practice. The anaconda was chosen because the scales are more solidly adhered to the skin, and is very thick, with a suede-like back much like leather. Durability is why it was chosen over python, which is a bit cheaper, but has flaky scales like a fish that are delicate. Python also gets lacquered (often with glitter) and looks cheap as hell. The individual scales can be like 2 cm's wide or more at the center of the hide (a snake's back)

Since most watches are like 16/18/20mm's wide these days at the lug ends, the scales just wouldn't have much of a dramatic effect or be spaced nicely, like croc or alligator, or the way a baby snakeskin would. Some pattern variegation and varied scaling makes a nice watch band. I have a watch with 17mm lug ends and it's just a tiny little band on that thing. Exotic leather straps look nice on it, but you can't just throw together something like that.

The other thing is, well, I just don't have anywhere to get them made. A good watch band is 100% handmade, and the nice ones are like $1000 or something. It's a small leather good, whereas I make leather garments.

Beyond that, they obviously take a little skill to make, not something a newb or amateur can just decide to do and be good at tomorrow. Since we have limited supplies, that is not a feasible idea from any standpoint. Have you seen some of those amateur Panerai straps (that people put on other watches as well)? I think they look like dogshit. Rustic leathercrafting doesn't really look nice on watches, just my opinion. I wouldn't want a $6,000 watch on a $6 band.

FWIW I can get toadskins, and they're like $3 each. They actually make nice looking watchbands, but I still don't have anywhere to get watchbands made. They'd be a hassle to get put together, as I see it.

Thanks for the interesting read. This whole anaconda deal is intriguing though I would never wear it myself. Completely out of my style but I am curious as to how it would look on someone. Uncontrol, you know you are obligated to post fit pics when you get it! smile.gif
